Pregnant and baby has SVT

I've just found out that my baby has supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), I'm 24+6, they've started me on medication to try and control it but my last baby was stillborn so I'm terrified history is going to repeat.

I've googled and seen lots of SVT cases in adults but has anyone else had this happen in a baby/fetus?

Our ds developed atrial ectopic beats at around 30 weeks which then became atrial flutter (a form of svt) at 35 weeks. I took flecainide for a week before he was delivered by c section. He is now nearly 5 and will hopefully stop his medication in the autumn. He has been in sinus rhythm for nearly 3 years now. He received brilliant care throughout and I hope you and your baby receive the same. Keep positive even though it seems scary and so unfair.

I think you're both going to be fine, please try not to panic. Can they refer you to a paediatric cardiac specialist so you get some proper support and advice?

Yeah I've been referred to a different hospital with a specialist, my last baby was stillborn at 35 weeks as she had developed flutter which had been going on for too long by the time we found out so it had caused massive hydrops and heart failure so it's just harder to see a positive outcome this time. But we have found it much earlier this time and the doctors say it's unrelated, just bad luck it's happened to us twice apparently, so I'm trying as hard as possible to be positive

I'm so sorry for your previous loss, however this has been picked up early. I'm a children's nurse and the care given to cardiac babies will be second to none! Try not to worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy. I'm sure everything will be fine

So sorry to hear you lost a baby as a result of atrial flutter. It makes me even more grateful for the care our ds received and how lucky we are to live near a paediatric cardiac unit. It is terrible luck to have a second baby develop svt, as from my limited knowledge it is relatively rare. Over time, we have become aware of how difficult our ds was to treat as he did not respond as expected to treatment, but he is here and I hope this can give you hope.
