20w Scan - Brain Ventricles above 10mm

I had my 20w scan and the brain ventricles were measuring at 10.5mm and after having a second scan this was confirmed. The other ventricle is fine but I obviously have to be closely monitored. All the other vital organs and signs have come back perfect but I'm obviously really worried. Ive had tests to confirm that I don't have a viral infection!
Does anyone else have any experience of this? I'm just so scared that when we go back it's going to be bad news :(
If you do have experience of it, did you chose the amniocentesis to be on the safe side? Thanks so much for your replies in advance!

What have you been advised re. amniocentesis?

Thank you I did find this and it did help slightly! I was just told it was up to us if we wanted to go ahead. We've decided to wait until the next Scan to then make a decision! But I'm still undecided which way to go if it still measures above! It's just really scary isn't it and puts a bit of a dampener on being pregnant as I've spent the last week worrying like crazy!

It is an awful thing to have this extra worry, but just to share my experience, we had a very similar measurement at our 20 week scan -just over 10mm. We didn't have the amnio but we had a fetal MRI when the measurement went up to 12 mm, which came back as fine and sure enough, by the ultrasound at 36 weeks the fluid had gone down to "normal" measurements. Our little boy has just turned two and is absolutely fine-no problems at all. Speaking to the specialist at the MRI we had, he said that 9 times out of 10 the measurements in these mild cases go down before the baby is even born - they are fluctuating all the time. 10mm is the current cut off for "normal" so at 10.5 your baby is less than a millimetre away from it not being flagged up to you at all -and measuring on an ultrasound is tricky anyway! I'll keep everything crossed for you - and do try and stay away from Google - it is full of horror stories! I hope this helps a little - happy to answer any questions if it helps.

Buzzybee thank you this really really helps and has definitely put me at ease!! I really would love to stay away from the amniocentesis as I could never forgive myself if I was to become to minority and something bad happen because of that. I might push for the MRI actually I've heard a few mention this online and it is in my notes! Fingers crossed my result comes down at my next Scan. I'm trying to really stay positive and I look at my babies little face on the scans and know deep down he's going to be just fine but there's that underlying doubt that is just eating away at me :o/

Glad to help, I remember all too well how worrying it was and how it left me feeling I couldn't enjoy being pregnant, which was such a shame. Fingers crossed that the measurement has gone down at the next scan for you - apparently it is more common in boys too! X
