3.5mm NT and other worries

I'm going out of my mind with worry right now.
On Monday last week I went for my combined NT scan, but baby was measuring too small to do the test and was in an awful position. This didn't stop the sonographer start saying that she thought baby had a problem....raised NT measurement and other fluid. It wasn't a nice scan at all for one reason and another. We have a rescan booked in for Tuesday.
I decided that in the wait I would be a bit proactive and booked myself in a private clinic to have the harmony test done. This was done on Saturday and they rescanned me too.
I could clearly see the increased NT and thought it looked massive. It was 3.5mm at it's highest. I know anything 3.5mm and above is considered a high risk factor.
She spent ages looking at baby and was having trouble seeing the left leg properly(left side was the opposite side profile) she could see both limbs but the left one wasn't clear. Then she had the same issue with the arms. Saw both arms, but couldn't see the left hand.
Heart was good and strong at 153bpm, cord insertion look all normal etc.
Then she tried to visualise the nasal bone, she thought she saw it but wasn't sure. She noted in her report that it wasn't visible, but could be due to position. She also noted she couldn't clearly see the facial profile.
Now,she didn't mention this bit to me and only when I read her report afterwards did I read this "possibility of facial deformity needs to be ruled out"
I'm in pieces over this? Surely if there was such a concern she would have said?? Or is this just based on the fact she couldn't clearly see the side profile?
She also put "need consultant opinion"
She knows I'm going back to the hospital,so I think she wants them to rule all these things out.
Any advice about any of this would be much appreciated.
Just to add I have also just turned 41! Found out I was pregnant 10days before my BFP.
Thanks for reading.x

firstly I'm so sorry you had such a stressful scan. Secondly, they HAVE to err on the side of caution. She wasn't sure...she's not a consultant...they always get anything they're not clear on checked by someone with more experience.

I am sure that the strong heartbeat and cord insertion are very good signs.

Thanks MrsTawdry.
On the one hand I want to be positive, but I can't help feel negative.
I know my age is against me too.
I've also just had a friend lose her baby at 23 weeks to T18 and she nearly died herself as a consequence. With all this in mind it makes me even more anxious.
Baby looked like it was in a good position for everything to be seen, but maybe it was slightly in it's left side?
To add to everything. We are due to be moving house in less than 2 weeks! With a lively 3 year old to deal with too.

I do think that what might seem a good position is affected by all kinds of things we'd not quite grasp...the fluid for one. I don't envy you moving! Its so stressful and that wont be helping your mindset right now either! Have you got someone to talk to about all this? Your DH?

Claireyb12 · 01/03/2015 21:14

Yes, I have my DF to talk too and a good group of friends. I've not told my mum yet about the possible problems as I don't want to worry her as well until I have anything concrete to tell her.
No, the move is stressing me out big time! And it's all coming at once.
It would be my due date on the 17th march of my MMC back in August too

That should have read 10 days before my birthday, not BFP.

Had my rescan today for the NT at the hospital. Things are looking up.
My NT measurement seems to have gone down to 2.5mm and no additional fluid around the baby.
I'm not counting my chickens just yet, until I have my harmony results back, but I feel much better.

YAY! I was thinking about you today and so glad to come and see a positive update!

I have to say that I'm glad my baby days are over because nowadays they seem to tell expectant Mothers SO much more than we used to find out....it's really changed in the last ten years as knowledge and tests have developed and whilst yes...of course it's all great progress and helps people in the long run I DO think it causes a lot of stress.

I see so many posts on MN with people asking about results for things in the early stages that weren't even discussed with me back when I was pregnant.

So...anyway...do keep posting if you need to if you get stressed again or if you're just pleased! Flowers

Thanks again MrsTawdry,
I'm trying to remain positive that the bloods will be good. Just the waiting is hard!
Also found out the house sale has fallen through! We've been in the chain for 5months!! Upset and angry.

Ah what a blow! Sad so now your house has to go back on the market?

Claireyb12 · 04/03/2015 13:01

Yes, at the weekend we will have viewings and hopefully it will sell as quick as before ( in 2 days!!)
Fingers crossed.
