20 week scan

Hi. Just looking for a bit of reassurance. Have just been for the 20 week scan and found out we're having a little girl! However, the sonographer found that the baby's head is the size of 18 week, rather than the 20 I am at. All other measurements were fine, and the placenta blood flow etc was all fine and normal. She couldn't see the heart etc because of baby's position so they have booked me back in two weeks to have another scan. She said that they want to check that the head is growing, and that it may just be on the small side as I am quite small, and my husband has a very small head! She did say that it is probably nothing to worry about but to be honest, I am really upset and freaking out and I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or whether I should be really worried. Any feedback much appreciated xx

Haven't experienced the same but I'd try not worry. As you've said, you are small and your husband has a small head so in all probability it's just normal for her.

If it's any help my DSIL kept being told that her DDs legs were measuring too long. My DBIL is very tall and my dn was born on the 98th centile for height and has stayed there ever since.

Did not experience exactly the same, but had various measurements that were off during my pregnancy with DD. At about 30 weeks I was told her abdominal circumference was too small and to watch out for intrauterine growth restriction and at my last scan before delivery her head circumference was completely off the scale (too small). At the end of the day she was born at 7 pounds 8 ounces with a perfectly average sized head and is now a very active one-year-old! I think sonographers' skills vary considerably in taking measurements, particularly if the baby's position is awkward. So I should not be too worried (easier said than done, I know!).

The more they look the more they see! Scans are a mixed blessing and cause no end of worry, usually for nothing.

Some stuff shoed up on my DDs scan but turned out to be of no consequence when he was born. Your baby is still really small and measurements are not that accurate. Try not to worry. I know, I know.......it's difficult.

Thank you so much! Been on the internet nonstop which is clearly a HUGE mistake! Also phoned the Tommys Midwife line and they were really reassuring. Have booked a private scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre to set my mind at ease. Just want to be able to relax and enjoy being pregnant, not just going out of my mind the whole time!! xxx Any other advice much appreciated. xxx
