Growth scan

Hey,

I've got a 3 1/2 year old, who when she was born she was 9lb 14oz, which left me a little worse for wear. So when I found out I was pregnant with number two, I was obviously instantly terrified. I've just come back from a growth scan, and they estimated fetal weight to be 5lbs which they said is average, head is a little below average and tummy is a bit above. What would you expect no. 2 to weigh? I think I will demand to be induced early or have a section, as it took a yr or two before I felt comfortable.

Thanks :)

Becky

According to a quick google average fetal weight at 33 weeks is 4.2lbs. What do you mean by worse for wear? Bad tearing? or PPH? If you had problematic recovery I don't think you would be unreasonable to ask to see a consultant to discuss how they would propose avoiding a repeat of those problems.

They said that I've done it before so I can do it again, that I only had a second degree tear and no intervention. And worse for wear, I had to be on a drip after, couldn't stand up until the day after as felt too faint, low iron, blood was clotting, low blood pressure, and was in so much pain. I know loads of people have it worse, but I really don't wanna go through that all again, I'm so anxious about it. The midwives don't seem to sympathise with me, saying are you hoping for a section.. Because you'll be laid up for weeks with that. Ugh. They just don't see it from your point of view at all!!

We are trying for #3 currently. Our #2 was 11lbs at birth. I dread to think the amount of scans etc i will need with #3 to monitor growth!!

Apparently anything above 8lbs 8 is considered a large baby.

11lbs wow :o, was your bump measuring big?

measuring 2 weeks ahead from 32 weeks and the midwife was not concerned! Thought he would be 7-8 lbs

Demand to be induced early. You need to see a consultant but large baby and maternal anxiety are two very valid reasons for an induction. Don't take crap from midwives, and don't be quiet until someone listens.
