Waiting for test results

Hello, I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first darling babba. I recently received my quad blood test results and, although not considered ‘high-risk’ per se, the results were considerably higher than they should be based on my age (35 at delivery). I have suffered with anxiety all my life and for pregnancy I decided to come off my anti-depressant medication. Therefore, I have managed to get myself into a bit of a state about my test results.

I opted to have a blood test (NIFTY) to find out for sure. I was told my scan looked good (although I noticed the femurs were measuring a week behind – although I was reassured that they aren’t significantly clinically small) and now I am waiting for my blood test results – I’m on day four of a 10 day wait. It is so hard not to Google and every hour feels like a day.

If anyone is going through a similar wait for results then I just wanted to reach out and offer virtual hugs to you. I am here if you want to chat. Wishing you all a happy and healthy pregnancy xx

hi iris, I feel your pain! I'll be 35 at delivery and was given high risk results also. if it helps, my Nifty results (think mine was called NIPT, but the same test I believe) came back extremely low risk in 6 business days. it was a painful wait. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Thank you so much for your thoughts, Nyldn. I’m so glad that your results came back extremely low risk after six days. Hopefully it won’t be too long until I find out for sure (part of me wants to know desperately now this minute and the other part of me wants to run away and never know). This must be the first time I have ever wished away the weekend. We will love and cherish the baby no matter what but I am so hoping for a low risk result. Hope you have managed to relax and are enjoying the rest of your pregnancy xx

I know, I wanted to call and check so many times but couldn't bear hearing bad news sooner than I needed to. don't think I did anything correctly at work that week because anxiety kept me up at night. hope this is behind you quickly so you can get on with enjoying your pregnancy!

Very best of luck OP, the waiting is horrible.

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, grobagsforever. You feel so in limbo when waiting, don’t you. Sleepless nights and dark thoughts while also trying to function as a human being to the outside world. I know what you mean, nyldn – I have been like a zombie all week at work, I just cannot concentrate on anything. I even managed to mess up making my breakfast porridge three times – it really couldn’t have been easier to make: put porridge in bowl, pour in milk and put in microwave. I managed to put too much milk in on two occasions, then tip the milk all over the floor next, then I put the microwave on and when I returned found that I had put the microwave on but left the bowl of porridge on the side. What should have taken two mins took 20. Oh dear!Blush

My blood has gone to China for testing. I have been tracking it in my head since I had the blood taken thinking ‘it has probably arrived off the plane now’ and ‘it has probably arrived at the lab now’ etc. However, it was Chinese New Year yesterday so, actually, no one was likely to be working on it. Agggh. Ok, I really must stop obsessing like a crazy monkey thinking about it for the weekend. There is nothing I can do. Thanks again for your thoughts, both x
