Am in shock. Scan yesterday for DC2. Nuchal of 2.2 so ok. But HCG was 3.6 MoM and Pappa A 0.25 which lead to risk of 1/15. I am 33. I n so frightened as bloods were normal with my DD so it's not like I'm just one of those people with crazy bloods. Was sent to FMC for CVS same day and now face 3 or 5 day wait. All positive stories welcome please, especially anyone who had this with DC2. No soft markers seen, I think we have a nasal bone.

Doh, I meant 93% not 85% in my post. Ignore that Wink

adaloveslace is right though. I happened to be looking through some of the research surrounding Harmony (think it was that) and they had a table with the babies that actually had Down Syndrome and what their NT screening risk said it was. Nearly every single one of them was a 1 in 5 or lower, usually 1 in 2. Hardly any were 1 in 10 or above. Wish I'd seen that when I was waiting it out for 1 in 34!!

I just spent half an hour trying to find that magic table again and can't find it, argh. You'll just have to take my word for it!!

Thank you mummytoh1.

Thank you ada love lace and crispy for your reassuring words. So kind of you to look for the table crispy. Wondering if we might get a call tomorrow although that would be optimistic with the bank holiday I guess.

good luck today grobags - fingers crossed your wait is over soon and it's good news. x

grobagsforever · 03/01/2014 10:24

Thank you Ada Lovelace. I just need it over with now. I can't take much more. DP is being amazing but I worry he is bottling things up. We have talked more and agreed that we don't think we can continue the pregnancy if it's bad news. It's not the thought of a disabled baby or small child, it's how that child will cope for the rest of their lives in a society which becomes crueler and more strapped for resources everyday. And the pressure it will place on us as a family. I feel so convinced it is bad news and I just want it over. I don't feel pregnant anymore, feel so detected from this baby.

I felt detached too. I think that is a very normal coping strategy. Fingers all crossed for you.

Yes I suppose it must be. God I'll go mad if I have to wait til Monday, DD is in nursery today so a least I can just flop and wallow without having to put on a front or her. I'm not sure how I'll get through a weekend.

Grin Grin Grin

CrispyFB · 03/01/2014 14:43

Hurray!!!! What a relief that must be for you - both the results and the fact you no longer need to hang around waiting for That Phonecall. I got the phonecall (with DC3, at 32 weeks) at around 9pm at night and I'd long since given up on getting it that day. So glad I could finally sleep that night.

Make sure to ask for growth scans all the same.. I'm sure it will be fine but as always it does no harm and better safe than sorry!

Did you find out the sex?? Wink

lmac88 · 03/01/2014 15:28

So glad to hear it was good news for you Grin!!

You can now relax and enjoy knowing everything is alright and as my midwife told me, I know more than a lot of mums would know at this point which is nice.

grobagsforever · 03/01/2014 17:50

No they didn't note the sex. Never mind it will be a nice surprise at 20 weeks.

OP posts:
PenguinsDontEatKale · 03/01/2014 17:55

Did they not?

I can't remember what it was called, but we got a quick set of results (after 3 days) and a slow set (after two weeks). The slow one was for vanishly rare chromosomal problems, some of which are sex specific, so we were told it was definitely in our file.

It's killing me not to ask but DH doesn't want to know.

I presume you didn't need whatever the slow set of results is called then.

MrsHelsBels74 · 03/01/2014 17:57

Great news! Grin

CrispyFB · 03/01/2014 18:41

They will have a record of it, of that I am sure for the reasons Penguins said, but it's up to you if you'd rather wait until 20 weeks of course! Bear in mind that the CVS result will be more accurate than an ultrasound at any gestation though..

Nothing stopping you ringing them back if you wanted to!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 03/01/2014 18:48

Don't say that Crispy. I held my willpower through the phone call with results and the scan. I have now convinced myself that the results are locked somewhere deep within the testing department of my hospital and not easily accessible. It's the only thing keeping my willpower going!

grobagsforever · 03/01/2014 20:23

We are not having the slow set no. Oh ring them penguin!!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 03/01/2014 20:29

I promised DH I would wait like we did with the others.

adaloveslace · 03/01/2014 23:15

Yay!!!!! Just woke up (on the other side of the world) to your fantastic news grobags! Thanks Really happy for you.

I will never forget the feeling after I got that phonecall - it was a million times better than winning the lotto.

Penguin, the quick results are FISH and the complete results are the full microarray....just in case, you know, you want to give the lab a sneaky little call! I did ask and found out we are having a girl (she could tell me from the FISH results). I had felt very detached during the whole period of the nuchal and CVS, and I think it helped me to bond more quickly with her again. We haven't told anyone as we want it to be a surprise for the DCs - I already have one of each, but it feels really nice to know DD will have the sister she wants so badly.

CrispyFB · 03/01/2014 23:25

Compromise!! You could always ring them after your 20 week scan just to confirm what they saw on the scan was correct. That way you don't have to worry about having the proverbial incorrectly shaded nursery Wink

grobagsforever · 04/01/2014 08:11

Yes it would have been nice to know to help re bond. Thinking of booking a private scan so I can see the baby under happy circumstances!
