Hello , im new here
im anxiously waiting for my CVS results that i should get back today .
I have been given a greater than 1 in 2 result from my nuchal scan , bloods and age :( (im only 32)
I just cant stand the waiting - im searching everywhere for help even though i just need to wait for the phonecall .
i dont understand the 'greater than' part - are they just being nice because they cant say 1 out of 1 ???? !!!!
Help and support would be appreciated

Very best wishes for whatever the future holds.

The only other thing I can offer you is an explanation that "greater than 1 in 2" could mean that, for example, of 3 people with those test results, 2 would be carrying babies with chromosomal abnormalities and one will not. So to the best of the hospital's knowledge it is more likely than not that there is some chromosomal abnormality, but it is not certain (and of course the level of severity can vary).

So sorry you are going through this Zoofina - will keep everything crossed for good news.

I was told the highest odds they could officially give were 1 in 2 - although in my case also they said they were 90% sure of a chromosomal problem. Best of luck x

Pizdets · 03/09/2012 19:29

Hi Zoofina,

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I was given similar odds this summer and ended up having to wait 5 weeks for the result as my placenta was too hard to reach for CVS, so I understand how awful the waiting is. Unfortunately we did not have a good outcome from our amnio.

Desperately hoping you get the good news you want tomorrow, it's so cruel you were told you would get the results today and now you have to wait.

I'll check back in here when I can and hope you hear soon.

Piz

Hello
We had a high risk result too, confirmed for downs and progressing with pregnancy, there are a few on here all with different experiences and out comes so the support will be here when you need it
Good luck with the results Smile

Zoofina · 04/09/2012 17:10

Hello ,thank you for all your kind messages
I have called again today but still no results . Apparently they said it would be tmwr unless they came in before and they would call me . This is after my midwife and consultant said Monday .
I feel in a horrible limbo land , not knowing what to do with myself , not eating , just sleeping and walking around the house.
Hope they call soon tmwr but knowing our luck it will be the end of he day ...:(

Sorry to hear this, it must be really difficult not knowing. I can asnwer your stats question though. "Greater than 1 in 2" does not mean 1 out of 1 - it's badly worded but what it means is that if there were 20 women in your exact situation with every variable the same as you, then statistically speaking more than 10 of them would be carrying a foetus affected by Downs. They basically aren't commiting themselves about whether that "more than 10" would be 11, 15 or 19. The CVS test will look at the actual chromosomes so will tell you an accurate answer soon enough. I'll be thinking of you.

slightlycrumpled · 05/09/2012 09:54

Thinking of you today. X

Pizdets · 05/09/2012 10:26

Fingers crossed today zoofina, hope you get news soon.

StellaAndFries · 05/09/2012 10:30

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you today.

Zoofina · 05/09/2012 14:33

We have just had the results that our little baby has downs :(
Thank you for all your support .
Now some hard decisions come our way
Good luck and best wishes to your all.
Are there pages for DS and Terminations for medical reasons ??

Sad zoofina I'm so sorry you find yourself in this situation.

I'm sure somebody will be along soon with more advice/ experience.

ItsaTIARA · 05/09/2012 16:04

I think that the section this thread is in "antenatal tests/choices" is the right place to continue talking. There was a specific "termination for medical reasons support thread" active at the moment under this section this August with other people in the same situation, or you could start afresh - unfortunately there are always more people facing the same issues to talk to.

I'm so sorry.

Pizdets · 05/09/2012 16:20

Hi zoofina, so sorry to hear your news. I started the 'termination for medical reasons' thread and happy to respond if you post on there, also there are some lovely ladies on here who have a bit more time and perspective than I do who have given great advice.

I had tfmr 3 weeks ago tomorrow for a rare deletion and do feel like I'm slowly coming out the other side. Pm me if you want to ask any questions or have a rant.

freshfruitsalad · 05/09/2012 20:07

Sorry to hear, as someone said you are in the right section, also read up about downs and the possible health issues that may come with the syndrome from the DSA website, it's what we did though our mind was made up not to terminate when we found out the news, for our own reasons xx

Daphne78 · 06/09/2012 15:11

Zoofina, I am so sorry you have to go through this. I terminated my pregnancy for T21 on the 14th of June (this was my second termination following another termination at 20 weeks last August for a different medical reason).

At the moment, I am sure you feel devastated but fortunately time helps with healing our pains. I don't have any living children but I remain positive I will have healthy children in the future. I am also grateful that we can learn about such fetal abnormalities and have a choice. Each choice is very personal and nothing is right or wrong.

I wish you all the best. Please feel free to ask any questions here or PM

mummymonkey08 · 10/09/2012 07:48

Zoofina I've not checked the forums for a while but had to respond when I read your posts - I went through a similar thing a few weeks ago - 1 in 2 chance of DS, and DS was confirmed after amnio. We made the tough decision to terminate and TFMR was on 16/8.

I'm thinking of you, and if you want to talk or ask any questions, don't hesitate. There are lots of lovely ladies here.

If you want someone to talk to, this organisation is meant to be good.

lbmum · 13/09/2012 14:08

Hi Zoofina,

I am going through the same at th moment. We were given a 1 in 17 chance and sadly we were the 'one'. Please pm me if you want to chat. We are nearer to the termination decision but will suddenly swing back to the 'we can do this' decision. We have two other children to consider in all of this, 6 and 4. It is a heartbreaking situation to be in and your world comes crashing down when you get that phone call after the agonisingly long wait. We feel like we are in a dee, dark hole that we will never get out of. You are not alone. ARC are helpful as someone else mentioned. I am so sorry you and me are going through. xxx
