CVS and miscarriage

I had a CVS this morning as a 1:10 chance of a problem, it went ok, mild cramps since. I'm now paranoid about miscarrying and feel like I don't want to move for the next few days through paranoia and scared to wee incase I find blood..

Just wondering about other peoples experiences with this - my DP has been brilliant but I still feel lonely in this and I don't know why :(

Don't worry too much, I had amnio and had cramps for a couple of days and a sore belly, just rest and relax as much as you can, good luck for your results x

Hi - like Freshfruit, I had an amnio and had a few aches and pains for the first day or two and then was fine. The consultant said to me that he recommended I rest up at home and watch a few hours of telly afterwards, but that if I wanted to go hiking instead it wouldn't make any difference to the outcome.

I was a bit paranoid afterwards (especially as I had to travel the length of the UK by car the following day) but after a couple of days I felt a bit more relaxed.

Wishing you all the best for your results - I hope you get some information soon

Hi like eagleray says i don't think what you do, in terms of moving about etc, will have any effect on the outcome.

I had a cvs and only very mild pain, i rested the next day largely because the only think i felt like doing was watching tv. The consultant told me too that the risk of missscarriage is reduced again if the baby is ok on the scan after the procedure so try and relax - the worst bit is over with. Hoping you get the all clear xxx

Thanks everyone- feel a bit better tonight although get the occasional sharp pain that's freaking me out...but they don't last long and had no bleeding so fingers crossed xx

I had a few sharp pains too - they seemed to be in the area where the needle went in, and were worse than the needle was (which didn't actually hurt at all)

By coincidence, I had a hospital appt the following day (for an unrelated issue) and I asked if they could find the baby's heartbeat, which they did. It was very reassuring - I am not sure if you are in a position to do the same?

I remember feeling that way and spent 2 days sitting on the sofa trying to avoid moving unnecessarily. I had some pain afterwards for a few days and I remember feeling a bit bruised. Try to remember that the miscarriage stats that they use are now out of date as the procedure now uses ultrasound to guide the needle and keep it away from the baby, so the risk is much lower than that stated.

I asked a MW to find the heartbeat a week after my CVS, as I was feeling so paranoid. I was only about 14 weeks along and she didn't want to do it incase she worried me more by not being able to find it, but I'm very persuasive and so she tried and did find it after a few minutes. This made me feel much better, is this something you could get booked in?

Rosduk · 15/08/2012 12:18

They have booked a scan at 19 weeks but I'm only 13 now so might book a private one if I get the all clear. It's so nerve wracking I hate this!!!

Hi,

I had a CVS also as we came back 1 in 7 so know exactly how you are feeling. I had cramps immediately after the CVS and was a bit achey the rest of the day. My stomach was still a little cramp the following day but definitely improved by day 3. I was told to rest for the first 72 hours, i.e no heavy lifting etc and to be honest I did nothing as I was so scared I might miscarry. They also told me the first 48-72hrs are critical so if you are still okay, I think you can afford to relax a little? Easier said than done I know! I agree with the lady that said if they see baby after CVS and heartbeat etc, risk is further reduced so by the sounds of it, you are in the best care and doing everything right. I went for a reassurance scan a week later so maybe ask your MW if you can do that - mine was really good about it and didn't question me asking for it at all.

I hope everything comes back okay for you and in the meantime, just try and do as little as possible - watch TV etc to take your mind off waiting for the results.

xx

I was in agony after my CVS and I was almost convinced I was going to lose the baby. But, over two weeks later and no problems so far. I know what it's like with all the worry. Best of luck.
