Hi,

I am trying to find information on CVS testing available in N.Ireland and what my options are if I get a positive test.
Both me and my partner are carriers of a genetic condition and we would not like our 2nd child to have. We have just finished 2 stressful rounds of PGD, which included travelling to London for and have been unsuccessful. I am not a good candidate for the IVF/PGD route but desprately want a sibling for our son.

I have spoken to my GP and he doesn't seen to have any information, I am not pregant, and we will only start to try once we have good knowledge of what we will do.

I only seemed to come across posts from people who live outside NI where the testing is readily available.

If anyone has any experineces of this test in NI, I would love to hear.

Thanks

Dx

dixie, I'm in the South which is not terribly helpful I know, but CVS is available in all the major Dublin maternity hospitals so I would have thought would be available also in NI? However, if you didn't get a good result here and wanted to terminate, you'd have to travel to Great Britain. Termination is not available anywhere in Northern Ireland either so your situation would be the same, I'm afraid. Terrible for women who are put in that position.Sad

Hi There, I haven't had to go through it, but termination is available in northern ireland for medical reasons, life of mother or baby at risk. Its not the same as in england at all. A different gp or chat with midwife or obstr cud be helpful.

holidays, is this document still up to date? It states there that foetal abnormality is not a reason in itself? From 2009.

Hi. I'm in Belfast. I've had two children at the Royal, my second son was diagnosed with Downs after he was born. We were told that if we had another child we could have a cvs test done to see what was what, so they can do it. I'm not totally sure what your options wold be if it was positive. You could ask to be referred to the genetics clinic in the City, they might be able to talk you through options.
