Blood showing as positive for antibodies..........scared!!!!!!

Hi,

Im currently 13 weeks 3 days. Last week I was contacted to say that my routine bloodtest had come back showing as positive for antibodies. Apparantly the detection wasnt strong enough to identify which antbody and there was only a mild reaction within the testing. Was advised to have it again in the hope that this test was a result of cross-contamination.

Called today and was told that blood has gone to bristol for analysis ( this is main lan for when anti-bodies are detected) so clearly there is something but I dont yet know what. Mind has gone into over-drive and first reaction is to jump on google.

Im over anxious anyway as my ds1 is severely disabled with a chromosome disorder and although I know I have no increased risk of this occuring again, as it was 'just one of those things' my only experience of having a baby is having a disabled one so naturally im petrified.

Just wondered if anyone else shres my experience with having antibodies being present in blood and what this meant for them and their baby.

Thanks in advance ladies

Hi summitstar

ME ME! I had antibodies detected after bloods taken at booking (I too am in Bristol) they were Anti M, which apparently OK as far as antibodies go. What did freak me out, was when the blood transfusion people sent me a card to carry at all times, just in case I ever needed a transfusion and bloods would need to be matched.

Anyway, was re-measured at 28 weeks and the antibodies were gone??? All v bizarre, but I'd say, try not to worry, if the level was so low that they couldn't even detect which antibody it was, odds are it'll be nothing.

My MW explained it by saying that the people that test blood samples have undergone major advancements in the last 5 years, and what is detected now, odds are wouldn't even have been noticed back then.

Good luck xx
