Community midwife - what happens at 28 weeks?

I am just asking this question as I saw midwife at 24 weeks and she said because I am having a GTT (glucose blood test) at the hospital at 28 weeks she will not see me at 28 weeks and therefore my next appointment is at 32 weeks. She says the hospital will do all the tests for 28 weeks - however I am only having blood taken, so will they know what other blood tests to take or do I have to tell them? If so if anyone knows what they are I would appreceiate it.

Also, I thought at 28 weeks they would do doppler/heartbeat check, urine dip (had 2 UTI's so far) and blood pressure check but doubt someone doing blood would do that. Do I need these tests or any others?

There are things they need to discuss in my notes and get signed off so the maternity assistant read out the 4 lines of 28 weeks (so apparently I now know all I need to know about breastfeeding) and signed them off.

I am anxious, I know but as I can't feel the baby kick or move very much at 24 weeks it feels a long time to know all is ok again or if there is a problem. So I was wondering what happens or should happen at 28 weeks and if I wrote that list out and took it with me to the hospital for my GTT to ask if someone would do it, as my community midwife most certainly will not see me then as it is not her job apparently if I go to the hospital.

Blood test for iron levels and o check antibodies.

Bp check and urine check. Where I work hospital blood tests at 28 weeks are done by midwife so theybwill do the bp check.

Fundal height measurement.

Nice guidelines say that women shouldn't have fetal heart listened in to during pregnancy. But if your area still does this they'd probably do it at hospital.

I think you'll find that you see a hospital midwife and that's why the community one isn't seeing you.

Thanks for the information VivaLeBeaver

My last blood test at the hospital at 12 week scan was done by a plebotomist, which is why I assume I will not see a midwife, but that could well be wrong. That is encouraging to know.

I guess all hospitals are different. Our 12 week hospital appts are with a midwife. Might be worth ringing o see?

Thanks - my dh rang to find out and the hospital midwife was very professional in answering his 2 questions, as my midwife today said she couldn't answer them... I think the hospital midwife was a bit frustrated that midwife wouldn't answer them as they were normal questions but she was helpful. They will now see me at 28 weeks, not sure if they would have done otherwise, but at least we know. I have to have a few extra blood tests at 28 weeks due to a variety of other things so I was keen to know they would be done.

In my first pregnancy I was not seen at 28 weeks by my midwife for exact same reason. At my 25 week app she gave me a bag for blood tests with info written on and told me to get them done at hospital. I did this but then felt really crappy around 30 weeks and went to docs - here I was diagnosed with early signs of pre-eclampsia and at 33 weeks I was admitted and had baby earlier hence I did not see my community midwife after 25 weeks. So I had to do my birth plan and everything by myself keep pestering them if you want help.
