CVS on Monday

Hi all,

I originally posted in pregnancy and was advised to head over here.

Had my 12 week scan yesterday, saw my baby waving its arms around and the heart beating away but we got a 6.1mm on the NT and there is moderate hytrops - with my blood test, I have a 1 in 56 risk of DS.

This is my first baby and it took us 18 months to get pregnant - feeling bloody miserable and have made the mistake of coming into work...have already cried all over one girl who asked me about the scan.

Am having the CVS on Monday at the latest - just don't know what to do with myself in the mean time.

My husband keeps saying it works out as less than 2% risk but I'm struggling to stay positive.

Just posting to get it off my chest really - looking through the threads here, it looks like it happens a lot more than I'd realised - good luck to all of us x

Ive not been in your situation but didn't want your post to go unanswered. Wishing you lots of luck on Monday.

Hope somebody with more experience comes along to help you out soon.

Just wanted to say hope your cvs brings the results you want, your dh is right, flip your odds over and the chances of all being fine are prett good! There are lots of positive stories on here about high nuchal scans leading to healthy babies - particularly a post by peelprincess springs to mind!
Do let us know how you get on, lots of positive thoughts coming your way x

Cinnamondog · 13/04/2011 10:17

I second that, also consider there are no physical issues with little one that they have turned up on the scan so another big positive!

Hopefully they get you in before Monday as, and if you've read past posts and other threads you'll know, the waiting is the worst thing. If you do have to wait, take it easy and try to relax. Take time away from work if you need to, see friends, watch silly films, eat chocolate. Get through these days as easily as you can in any way you need to. Try not to google everything/ read up on everything; you'll find hope but also a lot of stuff that will blow your mind and panic you and you don't need that right now. Please lean on the ladies here as much as you need; some one will always reply and it really helps to know you are not alone.

Big hugs, and lots and lots of good luck xxx

I had a 1:3 (4.6mm NT and bad bloods) and had to wait 6 days for CVS. It was horrid at the time but gave me some thinking space (work were graet and I had a week off as compassionate leave). I eventually decided that I would not terminate for DS and refused the CVS, but did have an amnio at 16 weeks which came back entirely normal.

All I can say is 1. distract yourself, watch crap telly, mumsnet, eat choclate/crisps whatever 2. It does not mean there is definately a problem. I remember reading stories of people who posted with 1:2 s which were fine and were very uplifting at the time.

Try and think/stay positive. I know that is so, so hard.

Difficult time for you. Sad That said, please focus your mind if you can of course that the risk is still very very very small. Good luck to you!!

thank you for the lovely messages - really helps to get support and advice.

I am feeling much more positive today...have done plenty of crying, now just want to stay strong and deal with the news as it comes. Have been told the test will definitely be on Monday and learnt I'm rhesus negative so have to go in early so they can check for antibodies and give me a jab...how I got to 29 without knowing my blood type I don't know!

The GP has signed me off work until after Easter so yes, crap telly, chocolate and mumsnet will be my companions for the next few days!

thanks again for posting x

Had the CVS today...and my anti-D jab hurt a hell of a lot more! The massive needle is obviously very off putting but I have an anterior placenta so they were nowhere near the baby, don't think he even noticed! Looked like he had hiccups as he was jumping around all over the shop, very cute. Was a bit uncomfortable but didn't hurt.

Will get the rapid results in 48 hours max, then 2 weeks for the full breakdown. They can tell us the sex in the rapid results, will be nice to know if we're right in thinking it's a boy.

Feel much happier after seeing a healthy looking baby on the screen, am obviously still terrified about the results, but am just hoping we get some good news in a day or two.

The rapid response test has come back all clear, to say I'm relieved would be a huge understatement! Will see a heart specialist in a few weeks but just so happy for now. Thanks for all your kind words during the horrible wait x
