Cvs results - how long?

Bubandbump · 17/11/2010 13:41

I am going out of my mind. Had the cvs last Thursday at kings London and although their literature says up to 5 days for the results, they indicated that it should be either yesterday or today. Still not heard anything- does anyone have any experience of how long this takes to get the preliminary results? I am not too hopeful of a positive result given our circumstances but both myself and my husband desperately need to know to try and move forward somehow.

Thanks for your help!

Squeezytoy- have you had the full results back yet? I am still waiting.. I know the probabilities are small but still want someone to tell me everything is ok! They said 2-3 weeks so still got till Thursday before I start chasing..

Hi Bub, no results yet they told me 10-12 (working) days but said leave up to 3 weeks so same as you - imagine we'll hear this week. Can you feel your baby yet? Mine's kicking with butterfly feet, so cute. Hope you are OK, I keep checking to see if results in, have everything crossed for all of us.

Bubandbump · 29/11/2010 18:25

Aw guess we keep on waiting then! I'll let you know when mine come in. It will also be nice to find out if it's a boy or girl for definate..

Yep I have started feeling mine this week and for some reason it seems to wake up in the afternoons when I am at work. I think it gets bored of me sitting here!

Even though we've been through a horrible time, the positive is that we've seen so much of the baby through scans which is lovely - I think it has my nose!

Hello everyone :)

I'm new here, (have been lurking for a while)

I had a 1:34 result after NT and bloods (I'm 34 and this is my first PG) and on 19th of Nov was referred to FMC for CVS. It was a really unpleasant experience! I waited 5 hours for my scan and a further 2 hours for CVS - By this time it was 7pm, We were startving but terrified of leaving the waiting room to get food in case we missed our call in. Had the CVS, Prof Nicolidies assisted and was furiuous we had been left to wait so long. (He went beserk at the staff)
I was told results would be in by Wed, I called, not in. I called Thurs and Fri and was told to wait at least 5 days. I called yesterday and after waiting 2 hours for a call back I was told they have lost my sample and i need to return to have the CVS done AGAIN! :( I am beside myself!

I have appt booked for Friday and have asked that they investigate what went wrong but the bottom line is i have to go through this all over again and wait a further week for the results. By then i will be 18/19 weeks and the thought of considering a tx if results are bad is devastating.

Sorry for long post but has anyone else had such a bad experience at Kings? All i have read suggests not and i think i must just be really unlucky :(

Marigold xx

Oh no, I can't believe you are having to go through this. Are they offering you a cvs or an amnio for this time? I think statistically an amnio has slightly lower risks and you will be over the 16 weeks. I can only say how awful it must be for you - as you can probably see from this thread, I was testing my hair out waiting for the results.

Maybe this is using up your bit of bad luck and is saving all the good luck for your results.

But as to your question, we were really impressed by Kings, we got seen right on the time of the appointment and everyone was extremely sympathetic and conscious of what we were going through. Maybe it's worth trying to speak to someone senior there to discuss what happened? Also you could ask them to prioritize your results - I think 3 days is all they actually need to get the preliminary results back.

Marigold, sorry to hear you are going through this. I hope they manage to sort it out for you properly and that you and the baby are OK.
7y ago I had an amnio (not at King's) and they lost my sample - very stressful and upsetting, so I have a lot of sympathy. This year, I had a CVS (again not King's) and the sample was delayed by a couple of days as well. I'm still waiting for the full results, I'm not sure I dare ask... I know it's hard to describe how stressful the delays are but try to remember your baby has a high chance of being well. I hope that soon you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Marigold76 · 30/11/2010 13:37

Thank you Bubandbump and squeezytoy :)

Arrgh it is soo stressful eh? I dont know whether its the CVS or amnio till i get there - I assumed another CVS but I will ask. Bub: I saw your thread and felt for you :( I hope this is using up my bad luck too! fingers crossed.

Thanks for feedback re: Kings - i think in general they get very positive reports, i guess i was just unlucky. I have called Prof Nicoladies PA and she is on the case and HE was fantastic when i saw him. I will push for early results.

Thanks squeezytoy - and it has helped trawling through here and seeing others that have been through similar. I have my fingers crossed that your results are good, Im sure they will be if the prelims are fine :) Hopefully we can all enjoy a happy relaxed rest of our pregnancies! Thanks again xx

Bubandbump · 30/11/2010 19:17

Marigold, let us know how you get on. We're always here if you need to talk. I did find a bit of peace when I knew the results weren't due yet, it was the constantly waiting for the phone that did me. Maybe they can confirm exactly when they should be able to tell you, to narrow that horrible window down as much as possible. Given what you are going through, I would have thought they would be as accommodating as they can.

ok so we got the full results from the CVS and they are clear! So happy!!!

squeezytoy · 02/12/2010 13:36

Bub so pleased for you! Yay! I hope you can finally enjoy your pregnancy and completely relax. And take care in the snow! x

Bubandbump · 02/12/2010 14:10

Thanks! Guess you are still waiting for yours then? I called them this morning and asked if they had come back and they told me that they had and a letter had been sent out and that they would have called if anything had been wrong. And right on cue the post came!

I am being chicken and not going anywhere near the snow (apart from watching it STILL snowing from the window) - working from home for me all week! Also after everything we have been through, lovely husband has banned me from going out at the moment so I have been for a walk (on the soft snow) in the garden and that's about it! Cabin fever....

OP posts:
squeezytoy · 02/12/2010 14:49

We aren't getting any post at the moment - our postie was squashed by a glacier. I've phoned the FM unit but got voicemail three times, so no idea about my results and am starting to feel like a stalker.

I'm now sitting on my bed, 'working from home' which actually means cramming marshmallows into my mouth in speed-eat fashion, in a mad attempt to become the world's fattest pregnant person. I did walk in the snow, I went 0.5 miles an hour for an hour, and managed not to fall on my face.

I have accepted the fact that I am doomed to never, ever receive results on time.

I've had lost samples, postally-delayed results, difficult-to-test samples, and now frozen-in-the-ice results. If I ever did get a set of results on time, I'd have to assume it was a mix up and they were someone else's.

Still thrilled for you, though - very cool. And glad your hub is looking after you - sounds lovely. Take care. :)

Bubandbump · 02/12/2010 15:46

Oohhh marshmallows...would it be wrong to ask hubby to get me some on his way home given it's a detour and he has an hour's walk home through the snow as the trains are all cancelled? Seems perfectly reasonable to warm little me!!

I think you have to work on the basis that no news is good news - think they would ring if there were problems.

Maybe when your snow melts you'll find your postman under the snow at your front door, frozen letter in hand...

Hub is looking after me but he also knows me too well, I am accident prone at the best of times..the thought of ice, me and bump just fills him with terror! I also don't relish the thought of being overtaken by grannies with zimmer frames..

Full karyotype OK... phew!

OMG that was a hellish few weeks.

Thanks so much for your help and support - will still be dropping in to follow news and say hi.

Bub - no postman yet. Starting to wonder... (peers at drifts).

Bubandbump · 03/12/2010 12:10

Yeah! Very good news! Over the moon for you. Let's try and enjoy a bit of these pregnancies now!

Yay!! Great news! :D :D

squeezytoy · 04/12/2010 04:30

Thanks :)

It's only just sinking in.

Marigold76 · 06/12/2010 18:40

Hi Girls

Just a quickie to say i got the results back and unfortunately i got bad news :( I was however, prepared somewhat as Prof Nich did tell me my odds were now 1:2 based on scan (still no nasal bone etc)so i guess there's another 1:2 woman out there who got good news! :)
Will now begin the long process of 'next steps' as we have decided not to continue with the pregancy as i'm neither financially or emotionally equiped to cope with a disabled child. Im glad both your results are good and i wish all the best with the rest of your pregnancies :)

Much Love

Marigold xx

violettalovesalfredo · 06/12/2010 19:02

Hi Marigold, couldn't let this go unanswered.
Really sorry to hear your news. What a difficult situation to be in. How awful to come after such a dreadful time with the CVS.
I really feel for you (I'm 10 weeks with my nuchal scan next week).
Wishing you much strength to cope with the next few weeks x

Sparklies · 06/12/2010 22:26

Marigold I am so sorry, especially after everything you went through. I'm glad it wasn't a complete shock because of the scan, but it's still got to be really horrible.

Sending you lots of strength too.

Bubandbump · 07/12/2010 11:44

Marigold, my thoughts are with you. I think most of us on here have imagined being where you are now and there just aren't the words to say how sorry I am that you are going through this. My heart goes out to you.

OP posts:
squeezytoy · 07/12/2010 23:38

Marigold, so sorry to hear your news. That's so sad, I really feel for you as I know what it's like to test and wait... like Bub said, there aren't the words, but we will all be thinking of you.

Bubandbump · 23/12/2010 17:13

Just an update - we had our 20 week scan today and another ECG and got the all clear. Hope this can give someone some hope in the future that even a 1 in 2 probability is just that..a probability.

OP posts:
Bubandbump · 16/06/2011 18:49

I just wanted to update this for those who are lucky enough to gave a clear cvs with a high nuchal.

All along I was still worried that it had to be an indication of something wrong as the nuchal was 5mm.

Our beautiful dd was born 3.5 weeks ago and as far as we can tell, is perfect (apart from sleep issues!). The day after we got her home fro the hospital, I cried with relief that she is ok. I know that we are so incredibly lucky after having a 1 in 2 probability and there are lots of people on this site who aren't so fortunate but for those that are, I just wanted to provide some reassurance that it can be ok.
