At my 12wk scan on Monday we where advised the baby had a NT of 3.9, nasal bone was observed.

Were so scared and have no idea what to think. We where offered a CVS but it was unable to be done due to the position of the placenta, so an animo has been booked at 16+5 after a detailed scan of the baby. We have no idea what to think, our risk has been given as 1-20, im 28 and this is my 4th child.

Has anyone have any advice of the above information ive given or experience with these kind of results, i feel so alone and theres no-one to talk to Sad

Hi kmummy

I was given a high risk factor from my nuchal alone at my dating scan they measured it at 4.6 (1:14) where I live they don't do the combined test so my mum paid for me to have it done privately.

The private clinic gave me a 1:1128 risk based on my bloods and nuchal of 3.2.

I had my quads done at 16 wks with nhs and they gave me a 1:5 risk.

I haven't had any invasive tests done but had a scan at 16 weeks and then another at 20 weeks no abnormalities found, but obviously that doesn;t mean anything.

Your not alone in all this confusion hope this helps, by the way I am 27 weeks on sat and 32 years old first baby. x

Thank you for the quick reply - im having the quads done in two weeks at 15weeks as there seeing if this adjust my risks at all. Age alone my risk was 1-1120 - with bloods its 1-738 and then with the NT it dropped to 1-20.

How can the NT be so different between the two scans?

Its nice to know im not alone, it just feels like im surrounded with people but ive never felt lonelier.

I felt exactly the same until I came on here and talked to other mumsnetters as none of my friends have experianced this.

Its up to you but I was advised against having the quads done as I had already had the combined test done, but was only told this after I had them done, they can give contradicting results as in my case they did.

We had to be discharged from a consultant once no abnormalities were found on the scans so we were no longer classed as a high risk pregnancy and I asked her how accurate the nuchal was alone and she said 'not very' and that the bloods alone are only about 60%.

They can't combine the 2 unless they are done at the same time, the combined test is about 90% accurate.

No idea how the 2 measurements can be so different as the private one was done the day after and she measured it about 15 times where at the nhs it was measured once and it is a tiny amount they are trying to measure so it must be very difficult.

If you wanna talk anytime its fine, try not to worry (I know its hard) and congratulations your pregnant and there is every chance all could be fine! Smile x

kmummy I just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you - I know how hard this is.

I am pregnant with DC 4 and my NT was 3.4 at 11+3. I hadn't had the blood tests done as I was going for the CVS regardless having lost my DC3 due to Downs.

I was finding it very hard to believe with my measurement there would be no problem but the CVS was clear for Downs, Edwards and Pateaus so that has been a big relief. I am now waiting for my more detailed scan at 21 weeks.

I have done a lot of research and spoken to two woman (one on here and one in RL) who have both had measurements between 3.5 and 4 and gone on to deliver perfectly healthy babies.

Best wishes
