Amnio and nasal bone

I had an amnio yesterday. As the doctor was scanning me, I asked her if she could see the nasal bone.

She was unable to locate it, possibly because the baby was moving so much, and she was not able to get an adequate angle. Everything else looked fine, growth, heart etc.

When I was going, she gave me a profile pic, quite fuzzy, where you could make out the tip of the nose, but not the bone.

Am now worrying myself sick about this, and wondering if anyone else has any experience.

Is it generally difficult to locate? Am praying that it is!

I will be getting my results tomorrow, hopefully, so not long to wait - tho it seems endless at this stage.

I'm 44, so high risk anyway.

TIA

I know it's impossible not to worry, but you really can't do anything about it (I had amnio, but never thought to ask about the nasal bone during it) -- you've got to find something to do today to keep yourself from dwelling on the outcome.

Good luck for tomorrow :).

Yes, you're absolutely right ragged. Wish I'd never even known about its significance!

Thanks for replying Smile

How's it going, any news?

oliviacrumble · 12/08/2010 21:40

Still waiting, hopefully will know tomorrow morning.

Am lurching between despair and hope, and don't really know if I've got myself in a complete tizz over nothing!

Will update when i get news Smile

Well, we got the news we were dreading. Positive for trisomy 21. We had already decided that if this were the result, we wouldn't continue with the pregnancy.

Just feel heartbroken right now.

I'm so sorry :(.

Olivia, I am so sorry. Awful times, but I just wanted to say that you are not alone, there are many of us on this board who took the same heartbreaking decision, for different abnormalities and at different stages of pregnancy. The support thread is a space where we take turns comforting each other - you might want to come in there, or just lurk, whatever is right for you.

I hope you have some support in RL. Thinking of you xxxx

Thank you both very much.

I will look in on the support thread. Just feel so incredibly sad and worn out with it all.
