Has anyone gone into a mum and baby unit for PPD? Was it helpful?

My baby daughter is 4 months old and im seriously depressed.
I was depressed before and during pregnancy but nothing like now. I find no joy in anything and do not love my baby. Shes cared for but I honestly wouldn't care less if we were separated for life.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. Are you under the perinatal mental health team? Have you been offered a place on the mother and baby unit?

If you feel you may be suffering from PPD, you need urgent support. I know someone who did spend time in a unit. It saved her and her baby. She actually called an ambulance when she felt at a total low and was moved into the unit after that. It was the best thing she ever did and she and her child are now thriving and she adores him. Please speak to your health visitor or GP as soon as possible.

Sorry you are feeling so bad OP.
My best friend spent time in a MBU with her baby and it really helped her, she got a lot of support and it enabled her to get some sleep, enjoy her baby more etc. Please do go if you can, it's not a bad place at all x

If that's the case then I would gently encourage you to go. If it helps and you know which MBU you will be on, you can google it and sometimes they do virtual tours on the website. Or you can ask to go and take a look?

There was a radio 4 program on MBU, focus was on supporting the mother not taking the baby off her because they said often the mum doesn’t need the baby but the baby needs the mum.

Ive visited psychiatric wards for work, do not get sectioned they are not nice places.

This isn’t rare at all or there would be no MBU.
