Hello. What is a reasonable amount of time to have off work? I think I have pnd and the sick note asks for an end date.

What does your GP or MH professional advise? They will be best placed to assess your current mental state, response to treatment and write you a Fit note.
I hope you feel better soon

When I spoke to them a few weeks ago, they didn’t advise how long. I’m being asked for th estimated end date is on the sick note. What do I say to HR? I do t really want them to know the reason.

I’m not sure I understand.
Do you have a Fit Note or are you self certifying? If self certifying it’s only for 7 days. If you have PND and are off work you’ll need to see your GP to get proper advice and treatment so get a Fit Note from her. If you’re in the UK the Fit note you are given either says you are unfit for work for, say, 4 weeks, in which case you need to see your Dr again at that time. Or it says until X date, which means the GP expects you have recovered by then and you can go back to work.

So you need to be guided by what your Fit note says and advice from your GP. If you are unsure then book an appointment with your GP or MH practitioner to discuss how you are feeling at the moment and see how much longer they feel you will need.

Don't be pressurised into giving work a timescale if you’re not ready for that. Some people may take 6 weeks to recover and someone make take 6 months. It’s very personal and you need advice from the medical person treating your PND
