Hi, I only found out I'm pregnant three weeks ago due to no visible bump or what I considered as symptoms. I'm 38 weeks atm. I never thought this could be me as I was always skeptical of these stories and thought how could you not know. My anxiety is thought the roof as I've taking no pre natal vitamins and I've been drinking alcohol almost the entire pregnancy. I've probably drink a bottle of wine every Saturday night. I'm terrified I've caused Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. All is measured correctly on my scan but I'm still up the walls. Can anyone offer advice please

@sam659 the likely hood of FAS from 1 bottle of wine a week is very low, my sister is a drug addict and drinks cider most days and her 3 didn't have FAS. You would need to drink a few nights a week of a high alcohol containing drink for it to have an effect! I did a huge case study on it when I was studying and my survey showed quite a lot of women drink in pregnancy. Good luck xxx

I know it must be an enormous shock! Nevertheless, congratulations!

I have no experience of this but I would phone your local health visitor team. They will have experience of looking after women in this situation and will be able to refer you for any support you might need.

I had antenatal depression despite a very much wanted pregnancy (4th round of fertility treatment) and was struggling with a couple of more practical things. I'd heard very little good said about health visitors but they were excellent when I was put in touch with them. My health visitor came to see me twice before my baby was born and it was SO helpful.

I imagine you have already had a thorough booking in appointment with a midwife and a chance to talk about your concerns?

Obviously the alcohol isn't ideal but I know women who have had a glass or two pretty much every day in pregnancy (my mum for one, who had a large glass of wine every day with all three of her offspring!) and their babies were absolutely fine so please don't convince yourself that the alcohol will definitely have done damage.

I know a woman who didn’t find out until 7 months with both her pregnancies.
Both her children were not harmed at all from smoking and drinking all through pregnancy.
Congratulations! X
