Sertraline help

Hi,

I have been to the drs as I have a 2 week old newborn and am suffering crippling anxiety and possibly post natal depression.

In the past I have been to counselling and hypnotherapy to deal with anxiety, but due to having a gorgeous little boy relying on me I have decided medication might be my best option as I dont have time to sort myself out as he needs me.

I have extreme concern over using medication and was wondering if anyone has any experience taking these tablets and any side effects? I have read insomnia is a side effect and this would obviousley not be ideal with a newborn to look after.

Is there anything i need to know before taking this medication or is it a definite go to to help in this situation?

Thanks in advance for all and any help😊

I took sertaline (100mg) all throughout my pregancy due to my prior anxiety. Still taking it with my week old babs. Don't know if I'd be able to cope without it tbh.
When I first went on it it made me quite dopey for a few weeks, but as my gead was quite wibbly before the meds it didn't really make a difference. I do always have to remember to take it after a meal though as it gives me heartburn otherwise.

Hope that is useful.

hey Im currently 12 weeks pregnant and have been taking 50mg of sertraline for 5 months, the first week is horrible but I honestly feel like I'm back to my old self. They have been a huge help to me, I personally didn't suffer from insomnia but everyone is different. good luck I wish you all the best x

I take 200mg a day. Can make you feel lethargic and really tired for first couple of weeks.

Hope they help you, I personally haven't experienced any insomnia. One tip I would give is to always take them sitting upright with plenty of water. I took one semi lying down once and had the most horrendous heart burn.

Hi,
In all honesty I would think twice before taking it.
I was prescribed it after my first child and was still on it 6 years later without any check up from GP, they just kept giving me a repeat prescription. ADs are only supposed to be used short term and no one really knows the long term impact on them to your brain wiring.
You begin to realise the side effects of coming off them when you forget to take them etc.....brain Zaps, being irritable so after a while I ended up just taking them to avoid these side affects.
The other long term side effects I experienced were loss of libido and being unable to cry or on the other extreme feeling happiness, you are constantly in this middle ground like 'being wrapped in cotton wool'.
Now don't get me wrong this is great for when you really need it but it should only be short term, don't get dragged into taking it for years.
I have now (painfully) weaned myself off this drug but it wasn't easy.
Use it if you need it but do your research and don't take it long term as it can change your whole personality and they are difficult to come off.
