Babies born at 34 weeks

Hi I had my baby on sat at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia. She's weighed 4lb 2oz and is in special care. No oxygen, no heat mat, just needs helps with every other feed. She's feeding great when she does take a bottle every 6 hours.

I was just wondering if anyone else had been through this and how long their hospital stay way. When I ask they will only say her due date, which makes me have a mental break down every time. Surly she can't bed to be 6 weeks?

Hi there I had a 35 weeker he weighed 3lb6 , similarly to your baby required little support except with feeding- he had a tube for a few days. We were on SCBU for 5 days and the post natal ward for a further 3 I stayed in whole time. It can be a. a very lonely time , but remember this too shall pass and you shall both be home, congratulations

I've had two 32 weekers and neither stayed in NICU till their due date. One stayed three weeks the other just eleven days.

In my experience the doctors don't like to give a time frame early on, they are overly cautious.

Congratulations! My DS was born at 34 weeks. He was in NICU for 6 days and moved to special care for 3 days then home we went. I was also told he would be there till his due date.

My first was born at 34+4 weeks because of pre eclampsia. I had already spent 10 weeks in hospital with blood pressure problems which was horrible. He was bigger, at 5 lbs. He didn't have a sucking reflex at birth so was cup fed, but we started breastfeeding after a few days and I expressed until then.

We stayed in for 10 days. When we went home he found feeding difficult and didn't really put on weight. In retrospect his sucking wasn't strong enough to ensure I produced enough milk. At 4 months I started to mix feed which helped hugely and i wish I'd done it earlier.

He is now 20, 6 foot tall and lovely most of the time

I know you won't be thinking ahead just yet, but if it puts your mind at rest about future pregnancies, ds2 was born at 39 weeks, I didn't have any blood pressure problems, he weighed 10lbs at birth (!) and had no problems breastfeeding.

Thanks for replies I'm having such a hard time being stuck in hospital with my baby not with me, totally emotional wreck! Fingers crossed she won't be in too long. They said they don't let babies home before 35 weeks which is fine and they have to feed for 48 solid. I just feel like the nurses don't have anything possitve to say 😩 So pleased to here everyone has healthy babies 😀

DD1 was born at 35 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. They always say to expect to be in till due date, but none of the preemies I know of were! DD1 was in for 2 weeks as she struggled to feed initially, I only got to stay with her the last 48 hours as I was discharged a week before she was. The hardest bit was coming home without her. She's a typical 3 year old now!

28 weeker who came out a month before her due date so in hospital for about 2 months and out when she'd have been 36 weeks.
