Hey everyone need some advise I'm 21 years old heathy but gained weight after given birth to my son who's 1yrs old now never had a issue with my blood pressure before however now when I go to the doc's on the machine it says it's a little high nothing to be worried about they say

They mention that maybe bec I'm at the doctors or was rushing to get there maybe that's why but I have health anxiety so abit worried do you think this is something I should chase on just to make sure everything is okay

Does anyone else have a similar issue when they go to the doctors?

Also is there any other symptoms with high blood pressure than high numbers ?

There's a name for it, it's the stress of seeing a doctor. Last time I went they got the nurse to do it and it was fine. If you have anxiety I really wouldn't start checking it daily.

White Coat Syndrome.

I'm the same. I have worked out that if I sit silently (definitely talking makes it worse!) with my eyes closed, concentrate on regular slow breathing, my BP will be fine on the third reading.

First time it'll be through the roof, second time better, third time in normal range.

it’s called White coat syndrome and it’s very common

CasperGutman · 26/04/2022 10:42

It's common. If it's a real worry you can check it your BP yourself at home or even use a device to monitor it continuously over an extended period, which should eliminate the effect.

I get this! Once it was so high I had to wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours. Every single reading came back completely normal.

I get this. They realised when I had to have a couple of operations (unrelated). One of the surgeons, as I recall, something like said, 'Oh yeah, it's in her notes, she's fine when we give her the anaesthetic! ' 😁xxx

I always have this. In pregnancy they would often have to monitor me multiple times, and I would get more and more stressed as they were saying it was too high, had to stay in for monitoring but I have really had white coat syndrome so the longer I'm in that environment the higher my BP goes. It's a vicious circle!

My husband suffers with this big time. It's always an issue when he has his medical in work. Absolute pain in the arse as he has to go to docs, get blood pressure monitored etc. It's always fine. But his medical for some reason is always an issue. Yes - White Coat Syndrome

feelinglowandblue · 26/04/2022 10:47

Sometimes you can ask them to use the larger BP monitor, normally purple/red and that often gives a better reading if you have white coat syndrome

Same here. I had to go into hospital and had raised blood pressure at the pre-op medical which I was told might be a reason for me not to have the op.
Luckily, I actually had white coat syndrome mentioned in my G P notes so was able to get a copy!
I was in hospital for over a week and my blood pressure was fine when on the ward.
