Earlier was walking down a tow path with DD (just 2) to a nearby playground and she started to protest because she had her rucksack with rein on it (and I was insisting I held onto it seeing as we were next to a canal) anyway I heard a noise and thought it was a bike on a nearby street but as I was struggling to get her to comply a young boy on a moped sped past us. It isn't a very wide towpath and I felt quite sick afterwards as I wasn't fully concentrating on it and it could of been really dangerous! He could have run into DD or knocked us into the canal. Just thinking now though, what should I have done? Surely it is not legal to do that? I'm rubbish, I didn't even shout at him or anything!

Should say this is quite a posh towpath (don't you know!), I live right next to the canal and often walk along it and have never encountered something like this!

What is a "posh towpath". It was probably a young kid not realising that you were there so you are being slightly BU

maxpower · 09/07/2010 22:22

I think you're over analysing this. We could probably all think of a 'but what if' situation we've been in with DCs. I think you are being a bit unreasonable.

tethersend · 09/07/2010 22:26

A moped? They are not allowed on the towpath. Pedestrians have priority over bikes FFS.

V dangerous.

How on earth is OP being unreasonable?

onestepforward · 09/07/2010 22:28

Ok, that actually makes me feel better! Tow path is generally busy with all sorts of people, lots of families and dog walkers etc and gets really narrow at some points just seemed a bit crazy.

YANBU. My sister was knocked down by a 15 year old on his brother's motorbike. She was 8. He fractured her skull. I can't imagine why any adult would allow a child to ride such a bloody dangerous machine.

Momdeguerre · 09/07/2010 22:30

It is illegal and it is dangerous. Glad you both ok. YANBU.

onestepforward · 09/07/2010 22:34

Sorry when I said young boy that could be misleading, he was probably 16. He had a bit of a scary look on his face too but maybe that was concentration given the many obstacles! And actually maybe it wasn't a moped but a small bike. I'd make a great witness

Hope your sister was okay Ilove.

Are you in London, onestep?

onestepforward · 09/07/2010 22:38

No home counties

YANBU the boy on bike shouldn't have been there. Not sure what you can or should do apart from ring local police and report it. Or ring council to ensure that there is clear signage regarding no motorbikes on towpath.

tethersend · 09/07/2010 22:40

Just wondered. It's carnage round east London towpaths where I live; the joggers show no mercy

How posh was the posh towpath?

Does it have a Waitrose at the end of it?

Do the ducks expect ciabatta?

onestepforward · 09/07/2010 22:48

There is a Waitrose just off it yes! Ducks will accept our stale breadsticks (when DD wants to feed ducks and we don't have any bread) so don't think they are too fussy

Department - that is a top quality post - thanks for that [chuckling like a twat emoticon]
