To consider shaving my 6yr old dd's head?

I could cry. Have 2 dds and I swear the younger one comes home at least once a month with headlice from school. I comb the bloody things out for hours day after day and lo..they reappear. Have discreetly informed best friend's mum on each occasion to warn her. I AM GOING SPARE. Know for a fact that there's one wee darling whose parents consider them a fashion accessory and never treats.

Anyone any less drastic deterrent ideas than shaving her head? I know there are worse things but AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

Feel better now after psychotic rant.
PS older daughter has NEVER had them. Weird or what.

Get a Nitty Gritty comb from Boots. Wash hair, coat in cheap conditioner, then comb through (takes ages but it works). Repeat every 2 days for a fortnight.

I have two nitty gritty combs [big spender], tea tree conditioner [from Boots] However combing does not suit me as mentioned. Wonder if straightening first would help as suggested further up the thread. Maybe it's my split ends that are the problem. Maybe combing has given me split ends.
Wah!

My dd has been itching for a few days, how will I know if she has nits?

FlyMeToDunoon · 30/07/2010 20:43

Comb with a nit comb while hair is wet and has been well conditioned.

Thank you.

Trainsetter, lift the hair at the back of the neck and you will be able to see black bits at the roots if she has them.Comb through and any dirty looking debris will probably be nits.

Myself and DD both have frizzy thick hair and straightening seems to make it easier to go through.

MrsSaxon · 31/07/2010 10:30

Would straightening fry the little critters?

Make sure you hot wash all bedding, cuddly toys etc.

My sister was a TA in an innercity school with a lot of immigrants and the children regularly came in bald. It seemed to be the standard treatment.

USing straighteners does work.
