to think that encouraging children to gamble is wrong?

My 7 year old recently started taking an interest in the outcome of the World Cup - no problem but then I found out it was because he had bet on Spain winning on Panfu and if he wins his panda get some items for his treehouse. Panfu is advertised as being suitable for children am I being unreasonable to think this is wrong?

Your son has quite likely backed a winner so yabu!

Ladyanonymous · 09/07/2010 10:48

YABU

Life is full of gambles.

Debbie222 · 09/07/2010 13:33

So are u saying its OK for kids to gamble so long as they win?

You have to ban your child from taking part in Tombolas and other games of chance at school Fetes etc., too, then.

notcitrus · 09/07/2010 13:38

If he wins might be an idea to get him to do some more gambling to get used to the idea that you usually lose.

LittleMisscantbewrong · 09/07/2010 13:38

You could use it as a chance to speak to your child about the laws of probability

(What is Panfu?)

ShirleyKnot · 09/07/2010 13:39

What is Panfu please?

Because I totally want some of that panda treehouse action...

Debbie222 · 09/07/2010 13:42

Panfu is an online game a bit like Club Penguin - its advertised all over kids TV at the moment

I loathe gambling - it is my one moral code.

So I would not be happy with this.

I don't join prize draws, enter tombolas, buy a lottery ticket, anything.

ShirleyKnot · 09/07/2010 13:44

Oh right. Well gambling is the only vice I never really took to, so I do tend to feel rather about it, IYKWIM.

As a family, at Xmas, we play cards for pennies; we each get 20 pennies to bet with and without fail both my boys refuse to bet the money and put it in their money boxes.

I wouldn't really call this Panfu thing gambling though...or did he have to lay a bet down?

LittleMisscantbewrong · 09/07/2010 13:48

What's the difference between a bet and a wager? Or are they the same?

Debbie222 · 09/07/2010 13:50

You actually place a bet on the outcome of certain football matches and if you win your panda gets various items for their treehouse. DS is hoping to win a sofa if Spain wins the final.

OP posts:
ShirleyKnot · 09/07/2010 13:53

Yes, but will he lose something if Spain lose?

Debbie222 · 09/07/2010 13:53

You don't use real money though

Debbie222 · 09/07/2010 13:55

Not sure what happens if you lose will speak to DS when he comes in
