YANBU.

Anyone that refers to themselves as 'mummy'. And tags 'mummy' onto anything and everything - 'mummy mobile', for instance, makes me want to

CompyCod · 07/07/2010 16:30

Although realises the irony of posting on 'mumsnet'

deaddei · 07/07/2010 16:35

I too loathe mummy unless my dcs call me it.
All dh's siblings still call their mother "mummy" which I find icky as they're all over 50.

I prefer to be known as sex goddess.

CompyCod · 07/07/2010 16:35

yeash
i get that too.

What venn diagram was that?

Sarcastic,pithy, blunt, non-fluffy

Scots

yet calls herself mummy

Tis wrong.

mayorquimby · 07/07/2010 16:40

can we add people who begin sentences with the phrase "as a mother..." in some misguided belief that this adds validity or gravitas to their opinions ahead of another persons regardless of the fact that the opinion being proferred is on a subject with nothing to do with motherhood or parenting.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/07/2010 16:40

Women who call themselves MILFS when they have teenage children and should be ashamed of themselves.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/07/2010 16:44

Women who talk to me about prams.

I have a 14 year old, what are you talking to me about that shit for? I was never interested in prams anyway.

Am I boring you about dd's GCSE options? Am I telling you dull stories about her leaving her cereal bowl under her bed? No. Please can we talk about something important instead please like footballers shorts.

Enormarse · 07/07/2010 16:45

You are right to loathe it. I also hate the generic lumping together as mothers. So we give birth, lose our identity and become some bleating bunch of brainless women with only one thought at a time between us (who is using the family brain cell at the moment George- WW1 blackadder is the best)?
The word mummy should only be used by young children. Anything else that is preceded by the word mummy in text should be duly ignored.

RuthieCohen · 07/07/2010 16:51

"cyber" as a prefix to anything belongs in 1998.

StainedGlass · 07/07/2010 16:51

And the worst one is....

MUMPRENEUR

BOAK!!!!!!

No she is a business woman / inventor who has children

PortiaNovmerriment · 07/07/2010 16:52

What happened to that "mummyblogger" earlier? Did it get deleted?

It reminded me of that Uma thurman film. You're busy, we get it, but you're fucking dull.

StainedGlass · 07/07/2010 16:52

AND IT DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING SCAN PROPERLY..................

CakeandRoses · 07/07/2010 16:54

YANBU - 'Mummy anything' sounds patronising and twee.

...However, I like to be called 'Mummy' by DS but loathe and detest the word 'Mum' in any context. I even shiver slightly when I tell DH about something I've seen on Mumsnet.

Sometimes DH slips up and tells DS to (for example) 'Give the book to Mum' and I snarl 'I'm not Mum!!!' Which will confuse DS no end when he's old enough to understand what I'm saying!

When I call DS's nursery I struggle to know what to say as I can't bring myself to say 'DS's Mum', 'DS's Mummy' sounds silly and 'DS's Mother' sounds so formal (although it's what I've ended up with).

I didn't call my own mother Mum (called her by her name) so I think its partly because the word 'Mum' conjures up a frumpy old emotional blackmailer MIL for me.

I'm even a bit about Dad. I call my own a random mixture of his name, Papa and Fathe (not a typo, short for Father). Which I'm sure sounds utterly pretentious.
