...to expect some actual assistance from shop assistants?

So I was in the impenetrable maze that is the supermarket hunting for some pine nuts. After 10 minutes of fruitless (nutless?) wandering I decided to be a woman and ask for some directions....

Me: I wonder if you could help, I'm looking-
Assistant 1: No, I can't.

Ever seen the crunchy nut advert? They are so ludicrously tasty that shop assistants grab boxes of the stuff and all bugger off. Did any of these lovely people have a box of kelloggs under their arm?

YANBU btw. They were all rude and unhelpful and there really is no excuse for it. And thats coming from a till tart.

I have had it with shop assistants treating the customer like dirt too (see my name and shame thread on a shop called Dwell in Kingston).

Also the other day I stood by the counter in a little boutique for 5 minutes waiting for the 3 assistants to finish their conversation about what shifts they were working over the weekend.

When they stopped talking they just kept ignoring me even though I was the only customer in the shop. I the end I had to say "excuse me, am I actually invisible?".

She claimed she thought I was looking over her shoulder at the stuff on the wall behind her. Hmmm.
