to think Nursery have mis-interpreted their own exclusion policy re: Anti-Bs and to be pissed off about it?

Took DS (3) to Doctors yesterday am due to inflammation on his penis. Doc diagnosed balanitis and gave anti-biotics. DS had first dose yesterday morning.

Took DS to nursery after docs as he's fine in himself, and not contagious, but then clocked their exclusion policy which said 24hrs for Anti-b's, so when they opened the door I said "Ooh, think we need to just go home actually", explained about AntiBs and she said "Yes, ok, see you tomorrow"

Took DS in this morning, filled out the medication form etc, was about to leave, when DS key worker came back and said he couldn't stay as it hadn't been 24hrs. Told her he'd had his first dose at 11am yesterday, so could I bring him back at 11 as that would be 24hrs? She went off to check with someone else, then another member of staff came back to say, no, because the date on the bottle was the 6th, it had to be the whole day after.

Well that's not 24hours in my book - in fact by the time I take him in tomorrow it'll be 46 hrs since he first took the medication!

Keeping him off yesterday was surely the 24hrs, particularly since he had the meds in the morning, and had taken a full 24 hrs worth of doses by this morning?

And why didn't the bloody tell me this yesterday?

So...AIBU?

Sounds like the nursery are nitpicking. What is the point of the policy?

MrsKitty · 07/07/2010 10:37

Autodidact - presumably to ensure no adverse reactions, and I remember vaguely reading somewhere that it was because "they won't be feeling very well if on AntiBs so we give them 24hrs to start working" Because obviously they are all medically trained, and know how long it takes an AntiB to start working . If he really wasn't well I wouldn't have brought him in!

Generally speaking, antibiotics take around 48 hours to kick in.

But I agree that the nursery are nit picking.

MrsKitty · 07/07/2010 10:47

Is it worth complaining - see if maybe they'll give me an extra 'free' session/half session, or do I just take it on the chin, and bitch about it on here?

Luckily I'm on Maternity leave with DD, but had a million things to do today... If I'd been at work I'd have been extremely pissed off!

Oh, and it's raining, so we can't even take advantage of the day and go out to do something nice.

Well worth complaining. or at least a chat to clarify what they mean by 24 hours and that you are cross that you have unnecessarily missed out on time you have paid for.

MrsKitty · 07/07/2010 20:05

Hmm - will definitely need to have a chat to clarify - going back to work very soon and won't be best pleased if it happens again - I'm still cross when I think about it now!
