To get someone else to clean the oven?!

Has anyone ever used any of those companies who come to your house and clean all the bits in the back of their van?

Sounds like genius - think it's about £60 which I'd gladly pay if it meant I didn't have to do it....

Or am I being a lazy arse

SPB, I did both of my ovens, in rental I moved out of, and the one I moved into.... even though we can't really claim the kudos for getting it clean and sparkling like that, doesn't it make you feel proud??!!

Small things, tiny minds...

I can wholeheartedly recommend Oven Pride, if money's a bit tight and your oven is really filthy, give it a go!

StealthPolarBear · 07/07/2010 09:28

even if money's not tight, spend the £55 on something good!

StealthPolarBear · 07/07/2010 09:29

what do you mean, of course we can claim kudos! i wiggled the bag, and rubbed it on the inside of the oven! took me all of 3 minutes"!

StabbingWestward · 07/07/2010 11:01

I Oven Prided mine last week too - Its £2.60 a box in Sainsburys at the moment. I love it, even shove the glass door in and it comes out sparkly. Also means if I leave it on overnight, we have to have a take away as the oven is out of action (nb, only works if you use before DP gets home, otherwise he wonders why you can't do it AFTER dinner...)

TheMoonOnAStick · 07/07/2010 11:07

Oh god yadnbu. Who wants to clean an oven given the choice?

I can't see dh going for it, so I soldier on with Oven Pride a few times a year.

It's pretty good admittedly, but I'd much rather have a nice man in a van do it.

I do have an ironing lady though. Ironing and ovens...life is waay too short!

alibubbles · 07/07/2010 16:27

Oven pride makes everyone in my house wheeze and cough, it is lethal stuff, especially if you get it on your skin.

A lady got very seriously burned recently using this, so please be careful with it. It is toxic to pregnant women! There have been 100's of complaints about it.

I have tried it and it does work, but the smell and mess aren't worth it and if any is left in a crevice in the oven, it takes days to get rid of the burning smell

MissWooWoo · 07/07/2010 16:38

It is £60 well spent - do it. I've used these guys twice before and they are BRILLIANT!

It's so worth it.

Alouiseg · 07/07/2010 16:43

£40 for a single oven in North Essex. The guy started as a franchisee but then went out on his own and charges less.

barton · 06/09/2011 21:30

Had my oven cleaned professionally today for the first time and it looks brand new, will definitely have it done again as can't stand cleaning ovens myself.

Would highly recommend ovenclean.com price very reasonable.

gladyoucame · 06/09/2011 21:59

YANBU. It looks so good when it's done. DH now relegated to cooking bacon on hob. My FIL is great at cleaning his own oven and MIL says so but he's never offered to clean mine! However, I'm happy to pay £60 to get it looking great, especially as they fixed the oven light too.

DoMeDon · 06/09/2011 22:02

You didn't clean your oven for 4 years???

Shock

I would lobe to have this done and my bins

DoMeDon · 06/09/2011 22:03

Wink Grin

MCos · 06/09/2011 22:08

Gosh, I never knew such a service existed!

KittyWalker · 06/09/2011 22:11

Never unreasonable to get a company in to clean your oven. I have it done once year. I use Oven Gleam

carabos · 06/09/2011 22:13

Our milkman delivers milk in the mornings and cleans ovens in the afternoons - YADNBU - go for it.

KittyWalker · 06/09/2011 22:16

or at least that's what you tell the neighbours eh carabos? nudge nudge Wink Wink

Sorry that was uncalled for Grin

marriedinwhite · 06/09/2011 22:16

Fantastic company do mine - Oven Clean - costs £80.00 (double oven) but last time the chap readjusted a wonky door and not only cleaned the ovens and made it all look like new but saved me a £180 call out charge from Britannia as well Smile. For about three weeks after they come I carefully wipe the oven every time I use it.

ChameleonCircuit · 06/09/2011 22:20

Has anyone used OvenU?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/09/2011 22:22

YADNBU - in fact I need to book someone to do ours again. Had it done a while ago and the oven was gleaming, plus it was v entertaining for preschool DC Grin

reelingintheyears · 06/09/2011 22:24

barton..

Do you work for ovenclean.com perchance?

This is 14 months old.Hmm

eurochick · 06/09/2011 23:11

It's definitely worth paying someone else. It's a horrible job. We always offer the cleaner some extra money if she does it and so far she has taken up the offer when we have asked and done a great job. That's much cheaper than the specialist companies. I had no idea they charged so much but then I suppose they have to travel to your house whereas my cleaner is there anyway to do my cleaning.

mummymeister · 06/09/2011 23:20

I didnt realise you had to clean ovens ! Mine said self cleaning on it, i open the door every now and then and tell it to clean itself - jobs a good un!

moonstonezoe · 07/09/2011 13:30

Is this correct, you have to clean an oven? !!
