to tell my friend that her cat is NOT a babysitter!

My friend said she would look after ds today whilst I went shopping. (He is 14 months) I took him round this morning to find that her son was at home sick but hge didn't look very sick and was playing with their cat so i still left ds. I did ask her about the cat (I don't like them and she looked old and grumpy to me) My friend said the cat loved babies
Anyway I was gone for about three hours and my friend put ds down for a nap. Nobody quite knows what happened next because she left him in the front room alone with the window open. All we know is that when I drove up it was to see my son in the road chasing the cat!!!! It was really scary actually as the cat panicked and ran right in to ds who sat down on the pavement whilst i screeched to a halt. My friend and her son came running out and were fussing over the cat! I heard my friend's son (he is 6) say it was all my ds's fault as he shouldn't have gone outside. We think he must have climbed out of the living room window - possibly following the cat?

AIBU to be angry with my friend for leaving my son in the charge of her moggy?

Yes she is forgetful and once she did a Bad Thing. Not quite as bad as today....but the family won't accept that of course.

You should have seen the size of the fish i had to buy and my face ached from assuming an expression of grateful thanks when actually I wanted to clobber my friend and kick the cat!

I hope your friend made her dh a nice cup of tea to soothe his nerves. I heard about her Stepford Wife tactics when that cat did its bad thing, and when that dodgy bloke from the pet shop came round she was in there with the tea and bikkies like feminism had never been invented.

I reckon you should chum up with Alfie's mum instead, she's no-one's fool.

Pattenberger · 02/07/2010 20:26

Lankyalto, I know her friend is a dab hand with the tea, I notice even the burglar gets a nice cuppa after that cat saves the day again...

tvaerialmagpiebin · 02/07/2010 20:31

I wish she'd be my friend too. I bet she gives really good Christmas presents, that cat gets spoilt too with all the hard-boiled eggs it eats. I bet her dh secretly hates it and doesn't think it has a hope in hell of winning a prize in that cat show she is always on about.

Mind you, I bet she hasn't told him the foxes weed in his breakfast cereal...

Mrsclutterbuckisabitannoyed · 02/07/2010 20:40

You can have her for your friend then and see how you like it when she allows your child to be alone with a murderous feline. My baby could have been chewed or run over or attacked by the bad dog that was on the other side of the road!

I've got another rubbish friend you can have too actually. Just 1 dd and she's totally loop the loop. Tried to tell me last week that a tiger had come to tea and eaten her out of house and home. Personally I think that she drinks......'Daddy's beer' was consumed supposedly and there were a LOT of empties....

Oh, I know her. Isn't she another of those Stepford wives? I bet she was more concerned about her dh's supper than the fact that a killer beast was sitting at her table scoffing cakes.

apologies to those of you who were genuinely horrified. Dd3 loves this story atm and every time I read it to her I think 'What would mumsnet say....'

Crapweasel · 03/07/2010 10:57

Nice one NorthernLurker, I do the same! Don't you think eating the fish out of Mog's bowl counts as BLW though?

dixiechick1975 · 03/07/2010 12:14

eerm i assume this is a wind up Mrs Clutterbuck?

Yes I do know the plot line to mog and the baby off by heart!

MuffinToptheMule · 03/07/2010 12:34

Mrs Clutterbuck - I love your name

musicalfrog · 17/12/2017 22:16

Just typed in Mog and the Baby to see what, if anything, mumsnet had to say about it (having just been shocked by the storyline) and this gem of a thread popped up. I'm not even sorry I've bumped a zombie. It's worth it!

Well done Mrs C.

Enjoy Grin

TeaAndToast85 · 17/12/2017 23:54

I would have picked up my DC, put him in the car, driven off and then never spoken to her again.

TeaAndToast85 · 17/12/2017 23:55

I think it was the bit where she rushed out and started fussing over the cat that would have made me see red Angry

NoNoCharlieRascal · 17/12/2017 23:56

Nice one frog that was rather an enjoyable read Grin

I need to get some Mog books for ds.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 17/12/2017 23:58

TeaAndToast85 read the whole thread, it'll bring down your blood pressure a smidge.

TeaAndToast85 · 17/12/2017 23:58

Haha I've just realised what is going on. What a plonker I am Grin

echt · 18/12/2017 00:00

On reading the OP, it made me think of those Popeye cartoons, where he's baby-sitting Swee'Pea and he needs up in some ridiculous peril:

BulletFox · 18/12/2017 00:02

How was this revived??

God I'd hate to think how my cat would get on with babysitting! Probably better than me given that she saved my life in the past!

DS is now nearly 9 now I guess?

NoNoCharlieRascal · 18/12/2017 00:07

Bullet how did your cat save your life?

BulletFox · 18/12/2017 00:15

NoNo it's a bit embarassing but she didn't like me for the first few years (I thought) then when exH got really violent (we were sleeping in different bedrooms at that point) she'd sleep across my head and growl at him if he came into my bedroom aggressively.

It completely deterred him, and I got confused having a cat in my head whilst resting.

So I left him but took the cat. Still got the furry little beast.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 18/12/2017 00:22

Oh Bullet that's not embarrassing! What a super cat! Glad you were able to leave and your protector is still with you. Flowers

musicalfrog · 25/12/2017 11:17

Oh TeaandToast bless you Grin

Bullet that is one amazing cat you have!
