to expect a bit of peace and quiet?

I live in a terraced house, next door to a lady and her son, who is the same age as my husband and I. The son has no job, and is in a band. I have asked him before to try and be a little quieter between 12.30 and 2, as that is DD's nap time (her room is a wall away from his practice room).
Once again, right now we have drum kit, guitar and saxophone and baby can't sleep. I even went over in tears with baby in tears once to ask them to be a bit quieter. (quote from the mum "oh I could hear her screaming" - right, well then obviously she could hear you too...) I've spoken to the son and the mum, and each time it goes quiet again, but it always happens again. What can I do, or am I just being unreasonable?

Move the baby's bed.

I can't put her anywhere quiet, the only place could be the utility room, and that's underground. It's an odd-shaped house.
In fact, just been down to the utility room and can hear it there too.

YANBU, especially if you have only asked him to keep it down for an hour and a half each day. I'm not sure what you can do though, apart from keep asking him to be quiet. Is it the whole band practising or just him?

loopyloops · 02/07/2010 13:19

The whole bleeding band, along with their PA system.

Are they practising in a bedroom? That does seem a bit excessive, is there no other room they could use? How often does it happen? I think it's really inconsiderate.

IamBatman · 02/07/2010 13:26

YANBU, a couple of hours peace a day should not be too much to ask, and its not like it will be forever

Ring environmental health at your local council

In a bedroom. Our houses are really tall and thin, so any room is noisy. To be honest, they are quite good musicians and I really don't mind apart from the fact that she can't get to sleep. It is quite often, a few times a week usually. Any other time of day would be fine, especially as he doesn't work you'd think he'd be able to be a little flexible but ARRRGGHHHHH!!!! She's still crying!

Good idea about ringing environmental health.

Just got her to sleep (fed her to sleep, not a good idea but after and hour and a half...)
Went round, but they couldn't hear the doorbell.
They're having a break now and are playing the fucking clarinet and flute in the bollo**sing garden.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGHHH
