to expect a grown man to recognise when a plate is clean?

I am not one to husband bash, I know how lucky I am to have a DH who helps around the house, cooks and is heavily involved with the children. However, is it really too much to ask to get things clean when he washes the dishes? His excuse tonight when I had to rewash every item but 2 - but they were covered with bubbles, I couldn't see the dirt! Looking with man eyes again methinks...

My DH once emptied out my nice hot soapy dishwater because, and I quote, "the bubbles looked messy"!!!

You could suggest to your DH to please rinse off the foam next time, otherwise detergent remains on the surfaces and it does obscure stray stubborn bits.

He does sound lovely though, it seems a shame to level any criticism for the amount of effort he puts in. Why say anything really? I'd rather have to rewash stuff than have the poor feller's spirit crushed

I'm rubbish at washing dishes too

ds(4)even knows to rinse and check for dirty marks before putting them in the drainer.

YANBU. My DH does this and it really fecks me off tbh! I quite often have a rant and tell him there's no bloody point him washing them in the first place if I have to re-do them all!!

TrillianAstra · 02/07/2010 09:12

YANBU to expect an adult to be able to clean dishes properly. Every grown person should be able to do all the basic chores that are necessary to run a household - washing up, washing/drying clothes, hoovering, remembering to take bins out (and at goes in each bin), etc.

As parents it is your responsibility to make sure that the next generation of boys and girls can do all of these things.

Good news - my 'gentle' instructing last night seems to have worked! Tonight's dishes were about 80% clean!

I expect what he'd really like is a dishwasher. Test the theory by leaving the Argos catalogue open at the relevant page....

is he one of those people who need glasses but won't wear them? they are not all men...
