HaHa!! I'm sure there will be plenty who think I am but here goes.

Went to Asda today, as I was going through the checkouts the lady at the next one had a 3 year old ish little girl and a 6 months old boy.

When we were driving out of the carpark I noticed the same woman loading her shopping into the boot of her car. I don't know exactly what sort of car it was but it was a big 4x4 thing and the sort where the floor inside is flat ( like in a galaxy - no sill to step over iyswim?)

Crawling about on the floor of the car with the doors open and about an 18 inch drop to the ground was the little boy! I was just gobsmacked that she had put him where he could so easily fall out!

Is this a common thing to do? I think shes absolutley bats!!! Why not just put him in the car seat?

If she was loading the shopping into the car then presumably she was right there? How could he fall out if she was standing at the door?

Are you serious?

IFancyKevinELevin · 30/06/2010 21:28

Did he even have a car seat?

Perhaps she just takes her chances and pops him in a bag for life in the back.

ShatnersBassoon · 30/06/2010 21:29

Is it relevant that this happened in Asda? I'm not sure if that fact is skewing my judgment.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 30/06/2010 21:30

She was driving a 4x4 - what more do you expect?

HouseofCrazy · 30/06/2010 21:31

Shatners - I was wondering why Asda was relevant as well!

StealthPolarBear · 30/06/2010 21:32

yes, if she was unpacking then presumably she'd have been there before he even got near the edge? Or was he still there while she returned the trolley?

BallpointPen · 30/06/2010 21:32

Better be an organic hessian bag for life.

Oh no, hold on, Asda? Prob a plastic one with extra poisons added for durability.

Morloth · 30/06/2010 21:33

Perhaps Asda shoppers are not used to seeing the inside of 4x4s?

Ruuuuuuuuunnnnnsss.....

scurryfunge · 30/06/2010 21:34

This would so not happen at Waitrose.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 30/06/2010 21:34

I'm guessing the baby was by the side door and mum was round the back at the boot?

PeedOffWithNits · 30/06/2010 21:34

YANBU - I have seen toddlers roaming willy nilly while mother lovingly stashes the groceries into place in the boot - get the DC strapped in first, don't take risks!!

I used to use the floor of the SUV as a change table as well Tombliboob, very handy indeed.

What risk?

PeedOffWithNits · 30/06/2010 21:36

tombliboob, I read it that the side doors were open where baby was, and mum was at the rear - she could not have caught him

Morloth · 30/06/2010 21:40

But then why mention the flat floor in the back (like a Galaxy but without the lip)?

She didn't say flat floor in the back did she? Just flat floor. I have no idea what a Galaxy is like but my campoer van has a side door and is flat there by the side door. Is a Galaxy like that?

PeedOffWithNits · 30/06/2010 21:45

yes in rear foot well, flat floor = space for baby to crawl....but with the DOORS left open while she was round the back of the car. therefore taking an unnecessary risk that he may fall out onto his head on the carpark - at 6 mths old !

lal123 · 30/06/2010 21:46

crawling at 6 months?impressive

KickArseQueen · 30/06/2010 21:46

Pmsl! ahh! the floor in a galaxy has no lip at the back, but also no lip at the side which is where the little boy was crawling about - in front of the second row of seats to be precise, his mum was standing at the back of the car unloading the shopping and both of the rear passenger doors on the car were open so he could have fallen from the left or right at any time. The carseat was still attached to the trolley

enough info?

why mention asda? because thats where I shop!

well DS walked at 8 months and literally RAN at 9 months

he was totally bald and looked like some little alien running about in a babygro!

KickArseQueen · 30/06/2010 21:48

I'll take that as a compliment lal123 all mine comandoed at that age

OP posts:
Morloth · 30/06/2010 21:49

Ah OK, well that is a bit silly though I would be more concerned about the door blowing closed on fingers than the baby actually falling out.

I read it as baby crawling around in the boot bit while Mum loaded up groceries in the same boot bit.

proudnsad · 30/06/2010 21:50

For some reason found the 'ha ha!' at the beginning of the OP v funny.
That's all folks.

KickArseQueen · 30/06/2010 21:50

pmsl! peed, dd2 was like that she walked at 8 months and her feet were only a size 2 she was tiny, it looked wrong! people stared!, sooo cute tho!
