My DD who is 14mo was born at 27 weeks. She is 11mo corrected age, still very tiny at just over 16lb and wearing 3-6 month clothes. She's already had to go through so much and play catch up with her peers in so many ways, was late rolling, sitting, etc even for her corrected age.

Today she's started commando crawling - it's slow and laborious at the moment but she's moving forwards!

I want to celebrate!!!

What has made your day recently? Let's have a celebration thread!

Aah, so sweet. Well done to all!

bearcrumble · 30/06/2010 21:07

Congratulations to you and your little girl, Galena. 27 weeks, sheesh that must have been hard. Mine was 35 weeks and only in SCBU for a fortnight and even that was really hard going.

You must be thrilled, utterly thrilled at her progress. What a little trouper.

What has made my day - today I got a really lovely thank you card from a couple who I passed my preemie baby clothes on to.

larks35 · 30/06/2010 21:14

Well done baby galana! FWIW my DS nearly 18mo and born on his due date is still bum-shuffling! He does walk with support and is now trying to walk with straight legs and hands, but can't stand alone and is yet to take any independent steps. All of us develop in our own way and your DD is doing brilliantly by the sound of it

domesticdiva · 30/06/2010 21:18

Yeay! Congratulations to you both!

I'll join in since my DS who was born at 33 weeks, is now 16 months non corrected age, took his first steps today all by himself! Cried my eyes out at playgroup ha ha!

Timbachick · 30/06/2010 21:28

Congratulations Baby Galena. It seems an age ago when my DS did the bum-shuffle but I thank my lucky stars every day that I have him as my son. Truly, truly blessed to have him as my boy.

And congrats to all the others on this thread today that have such wonderful things to be happy about.

susitwoshoes · 30/06/2010 21:37

congrats to mini Galena, and everyone else on here.

I'm going on my first night out tomorrow since DD (6 months) was born, managed to buy a dress today and the staff in the shop were LOVELY, really helpful with the pram, and cooed like nobody's business over DD! And DP spotted her second tooth coming through today.

serin · 30/06/2010 21:38

Shakes PomPoms,

Well done that baby.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/06/2010 21:39

Lovely thread. Am imagining commando crawling ... Aww

DS1 s self-esteem is rubbish ATM, but he's had a good day and gone to bed very happy.

ProzacTheGiggleFairy · 30/06/2010 21:48

Well done to your dd. I have ds1 who was a 27 weeker, so I fully understand what an amazing milestone she has made.

Butterpie · 30/06/2010 21:52

DD2 is finally getting less clingy- she is 7.5mo now and can sit up (most of the time!) and I think being able to look around has really helped her. I can finally have five minutes to have a brew!

DD1 (3.3yo) made me very proud today- she was helping her Daddy make pasta and she asked where it came from. He said Italy and her little face lit up and she said "just like the Romans!" We had spent time earlier in the day looking at some pictures of ancient Rome, but I didn't think it had actually gone in :D

Dancing lesson tommorow and HE club at an art gallery on Friday - busy week!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/06/2010 21:53

cory - loved your post

mummytowillow · 30/06/2010 21:56

Yay, clever girl!!!

Congratulations!!

MichaelaS · 30/06/2010 22:06

Hi galena - well done to your little girl! Its such a milestone isn't it? I cried when my son Nathan crawled (he's an ex 24-weeker so I know what youv'e been through)

TenaciousMe tell your friend to visit the bliss message board, it completely saved my sanity (hmm, my sanity is not 100% intact, but it is completely responsible for salvaging the bit that is left!)

At 29 weeks her baby will look tiny and vulnerable, but will be stronger than he/she looks. Over 28 weeks the chances of survival are pretty good, and her baby should be home around about the original due date all being well. [hugs]

JeanLouiseFinch · 30/06/2010 22:13

Fab. Go Mini Galena!

WillbeanChariot · 30/06/2010 22:20

Brilliant well done little lady, and hi Bliss ladies (I have a different name on that board).

My 27 weeker amazes me every day. TenaciousMe I second what Michaela says. Congrats to your friend, I hope her little one has a smooth ride through SCBU.

Galena · 30/06/2010 22:31

Ooops forgot to mention the Bliss board!

baby Galena and YANBU to want to shout it from the roof tops.

What a lovely idea for a thread and I'm celebrating the fact my DS 5.10 wanted to buy a folder today and do some work to go in it!!! Small thing but up til now he's had really low self esteem with school work. Quick trip to supermarket and its sorted!!

scanty · 30/06/2010 23:27

congratualtions - my friend had a preemie under 24 weeks and know of the worry regarding their progress. Sounds like you're little one is doing great and catching up fast!

thecoffeelady · 30/06/2010 23:48

That's fabulous news!

You must be so proud

Bucharest · 30/06/2010 23:52

Lovely news and lovely thread!

TenaciousMe · 01/07/2010 10:18

Thanks MichaelaS, I'll pass that on to her.

I've started a thread on AIBU for my friend, called 'I need MN help!!'

If any of you who have lovely uplifting stories of preemie babies could go on and post your positive story i would be reeally really grateful!
Thanks x

dexifehatz · 01/07/2010 22:54

Well done Galena!!!It's fab when they reach milestones isn't it? DD1 has got top score in Science,DS has got great work sticker and baby Fliss now brings a new nappy to me when she has done a poo!!!AHHH the joys never cease

womblingfree · 01/07/2010 23:04

Congrats Galena and everyone else!

We had DD's end of Reception Yr parents evening this week and were told she's been classed as 'gifted and talented' in reading and writing and borderline G & T in numeracy - so am a very proud Mummy at the mo (and relieved that she's not likely to have to ask me for help with Maths homework in the future!!!)
