It's lovely really and I did let him but AIBU not to have the balls to say "you just sprayed toxic chemicals into our roof to kill every little buzzy thing in sight now you want to hold my baby?!"

OK, IABU - he was telling me about his granddaughter of the same age. Please tell me you would have thought the same though.

was he wearing protective clothing whilst spraying??

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:08

nope, just sauntered up there in his T shirt

however much i have wanted to hold a newborn, unless offered to me, i would never, ever ask.
Its slightly beyond creepy for a stranger, to ask to hold a baby thats nothing to do with them.
Although im sure his intentions are fine, i would of said, sorry, no.

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:11

oh she's 9 months, maybe should have mentioned that, sorry
And I wasn't worried about his intentions, just his level of powdery toxicity

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:12

and he offered while I needed a free hand to pay his bill

how old is your dd?

actually, scrub that - I would have thought exactly the same as you, and probably made an excuse such as "oh she's not good with strangers/don't want to wake/prone to puking" - whatever applicable due to age

I thought this was going to be an anti-white-man rant!!!

Hopefully they are reasonably harmless pesticides hence him not worrying/wearing protective stuff?

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:14

"I would have thought exactly the same as you, and probably made an excuse such as "oh she's not good with strangers"

yeah I thought of that but she was holding her arms out to him and grinning! So think I'd have looked a bit of an idiot

@ spraying toxic chemicals into your roof. IF you really cared about your daughter you would have applied lots of cheap conditioner and combed the wasps out of your roof with a fine tooth comb. No need for chemicals at all.

YunoYurbubson · 29/06/2010 14:15

Sorry, should read cheap organic conditioner.

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:15

yeah, that's what I'm assuming Sloany, but I gave her hands a good wash before lunch!

That girl would go with anyone who looked like they were willing to break their back and walk her round for a bit Fear of strangers would def not have worked!

Vallhala · 29/06/2010 14:18

Sorry, wouldn't have felt as you did.

Dropdeadfred · 29/06/2010 14:18

If he didnt need a mask and protective clothing then i think it's fine. I hink it's lovely that he asked to hold her...

EasilyConfusedIndith · 29/06/2010 14:18

at conditioner and a fine comb.

moondog · 29/06/2010 14:18

Oh FGS....

silverfrog · 29/06/2010 14:19

hah! I see your dilemma

Salbysea · 29/06/2010 14:20

I don't think there's anything creepy about him wanting to hold her since he is a grandparent of a child the same age, my mum walks up to strangers with DC the same age as mine and tells them all about DS, gets her pics of DS out, and probably asks for a cuddle too

YANBU about the chemicals but if it was just a quick cuddle I'm sure it was fine

silverfrog · 29/06/2010 14:21
StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:22

sorry valhalla & moondog - you obv know more about this chemical stuff than me
agree with whoever said if he didnt need protective clothes himself then it's probabl;y fine
and i did say i wpbu in the op!

OrmRenewed · 29/06/2010 14:23

Well no I wouldn't have felt that way. But I am terribly lax at this sort of thing

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2010 14:23

moondog, please explain why I warranted a FGS???
A simple disagreement would have done
