to not want DD to wear lipstick?

My 4 year old DD has been given a "play" lipstick by her grandmother (my mother in law) which, apparently, she sometimes wears when they are out together.

I have a real problem with this as I don't like to see small girls - esp my own child - wearing make up. My MIL knows this and i am amazed she has provided her with the make up. Other than this, she is wonderful and helps out a lot with childcare.

should i say something diplomatically or just let it go?

let it go, i do facepainting and always paint lipstick on, it's just imaginative play

What a wind up. Bit odd that she has given it knowing you don't want DD to have it, if you usually get on. Bit stuck if she helps out with childcare a lot, you're not going to want to fall out with her over it.

I don't think I would mind my DD putting lipstick on during a dressing-up type scenario at home, but I wouldn't be happy about her going out in public with it on tbh. Maybe say this to your MIL? Because if they've gone to the park or wherever it's not really "play" lipstick, is it?

Tell MIL you're not happy with it, and you'd rather DD didn't wear it, but perhaps give DD a lipsalve so that she still feels like she's putting some on?

One of the first things SIL said when she saw DD for the first time was 'Ooh, can't wait to get some mazzy on those lashes' ...DD was about a week old . Not looking forward to having this conversation myself!

I don't think lip salve/play lipstick bear any relation to actually wearing make up or being body-conscious, or any of the 'adult' issues you might link it to. It's just copying the grown up, just like when they play-hoover or walk around in other people's shoes.
