Obviously have stuck it on for the dds on numerous occasions and know some of the songs, but I couldn't honestly tell you the plot. Is it any good?

Urgh, I have seen this all the way through and I plan to NEVER repeat the experience. Does my head in, DD loves it though.

Not seen it all the way through. Mind you, it was only when I went to a Sing-a-Long-Sound of Music thingy that I realised I hadn't seen that all the way through either. I must have consistently got bored and wandered off between Doh a Deer and Eidlewiess right at the end. Thinking about it, it was probably due to nausea induced by the line "would it help if we sang about our favourite things, Frauline Maria"?

such terrible cynicism- and in a Saint too!!

YABU - i love it, especially the bit where Truly Scrumptious is the wind up doll...

DH would like to disown me though for my love of musicals, Sound of Music is my all time fave, followed closely by Oliver and Mary Poppins!

YANBU.

The child catcher is terrifying.

TheNextMrsDepp · 27/06/2010 15:29

OMG I adore that film, just love it, love it, love it. Saw it several times as a child, even on stage once! Who gives a rat's arse about "structural narrative"?

BeenBeta · 27/06/2010 15:30

YABU - I have watched it all the way through dozens of times with DSs.

The Baron is wonderful and I always think a nice touch as he is the actor who plays Goldfinger of in the Bond film and of course Ian Fleming wrote Chitty Bang Bang too.

Disagree with UQD the love story interwoven is of course a 'love at first sight' classic.

At the end when Caractacus kisses Truly and she says 'why Mr Potts you'll have to marry me now' I always wonder if this was an adlib as Dick Van Dyke looks genuinely surprised by it.

PotteringAlong · 27/06/2010 16:54

When I grow up I will be Truly Scrumptious. Remember being very confused though when the baron's wife appeared as mrs Munro in grange hill... It was such a career shift!
