to have put my kids (DS1 4 & DS2 3) to bed at 6.15 as I've had ENOUGH?!

Let me just say that I am now VERY pregnant (8 days overdue in fact), with ankles the size of the M25 and am HATING this current heatwave with a disdain I usually reserve for N-Dubz.
Anyhow, my ds have been a major handful today from the moment they woke me up at 5.40am with shouts of 'I NEED a POO!' (DS1 is MORE than capable of taking himself to the toilet at any time of day, other, than it seems before 6am).

I have spent all day seemingly saying 'No', 'Don't do that', 'Stop hitting eachother', 'Listen to what I am saying', 'Listen to me' etc etc etc, variations on the same theme.

Each mealtime has been a fight - they are constantly egging eachother on to see who can be the naughtiest and goad me and DH the most.

Don't get me wrong, they are not normally angels by any means but today has been a novelty in terms of it's relentlessness.

Got to 6pm and both DH and I had had enough so took them up for a bath- cue further screaching, screaming, jumping on eachother, total disregard for anything we said. I stood DS1 in front of me to have a chat with him about his behaviour and how disappointed I am and throughout my whole speech he ground his foot down onto mine while DS2 jumped around laughing and doing ape impressions.

I burst into tears and have sent them both to bed with no stories, no cuddles etc. Both been silent since although I am dreading the inevitable 5am wake up call tomorrow.

Please, someone tell me that IANBU to sometimes find life with my children soooooooo hard that I count the seconds until I get them in bed.

And if anyone points out that in a matter of days, life is going to get so much more stressful for me with 3 to cope with, I will hunt you down and strangle you .

YANBU. Must be very hard being heavily pregnant in this heat!! Good luck.

Gl4dys · 26/06/2010 21:09

My DC (4.5 and 2.2) are usually in bed at this time, and definitely no later than 6.30. I admit they do get up early (usually around 6am) but we have struggled several times to push bedtime back a bit for the sake of a lie in and have always been defeated by day 5 as we are all grumpy and tired.

We are also suffering from hugely disturbed nights because of heat/pollen. DS has been awake every 2 hours for the last 3 nights. Keeping everything crossed for a good night tonight - I'm knackered!

Re the "I don't love you any more Mummy" comment - my usual reply is "Fine, but I will always love you". Drives my dd absolutely ild .

JaynieB · 26/06/2010 21:11

I'm suffering with hay fever at the moment, so maybe its not DD being difficult - its just me being a grump!
Hope your baby arrives soon OP!

5DollarShake · 26/06/2010 21:19

YA so so so NBU!!

I am 8 months pregnant and in sole charge of DS1 (17mo) this weekend as DH is away, and I had to take him up nearly half an hour early.

I am utterly done in, and am not even overdue!! And can't quite believe I have to do it all again tomorrow.

I hope it happens soon for you.

Alambil · 26/06/2010 21:22

haven't read the post, but just wanted to say DS's regular bedtime at 3/4 years was 6 30/7pm so it's not THAT early, really!

jollyma · 26/06/2010 21:31

lifeinagoldfishbowl. I'm desperate not to have him up at 5am again. Makes no sense and is completely unreasonable. I'll have to make it up to ds1 tomorrow.

lefroglet · 26/06/2010 21:32

YANBU - by 6pm EVERY night I am counting down the seconds until I can justifiably put DS (18 months) to bed - I am such a lightweight, I definitely don't know how I will cope with two! I'm not pregnant either
He's a bit of a livewire - never stops moving. Won't sit and do anything (like play with toys, look at a book, watch tv). I know DS will wake up at 6am, maybe a bit earlier, but I can't eek it out any longer as I just can't watch him charge around any longer.

deaddei · 26/06/2010 21:33

Even my 13 and 11 year olds were in bed by 8 tonight as thy were squabbling and basically very tired.
Bliss.

girlsyearapart · 26/06/2010 21:44

you are sooo not BU.

I was woken by dd1 at 550 this morning with the shouts of 'I need a poo' too so I'm feeling your pain.

She succeeded in waking dd2 aswell for the 2nd day in a row.

I didn't do early bedtime but made them nap somewhat against their will at 1030 am so I could kip on the sofa..

You beat me in the pregnancy stakes though- I've 5 weeks to go until dc3 arrives.

fernie3 · 27/06/2010 06:27

YANBU I am not as pregnant as you (34 weeks) but trying to pack our house to move with a 5 year old, 3 year old and 16 months old hanging about. I think "shouty mummy" would be putting it mildly at the moment - mine seemed strangely keen for bed last night, probably so I would stop asking them to help!

mixedraceparents · 27/06/2010 06:41

YADNBU. Sit down and relax! My 16 month old was up from 5am until about 10pm and he needs attention EVERY second. No chance of doing anything else AT ALL when he's awake .

I can't put him into his cot though, because he get's annoyed and attempts a prison break, which is noisy and painful for all of us.

*sighs

whoneedssleepanyway · 27/06/2010 07:06

YANBU I frequently count down the hours till bedtime....hope DC3 makes an appearance soon for you.

angelboysmummy · 27/06/2010 07:31

YANBU

my two in bed by 6 every night as DS (4 years) thinks morning begins at 4.30 depsite every trick tried to change that. later bedtimes do nothing as he is just cranky. definately just his body clock working.

since arrival of DD last year he also manages to wake her up at same time.

hope all goes well with dc3 arrival

Willabywallaby · 27/06/2010 07:42

YANBU

Hope you had a restful night.

MummyTo2MonkeysAnd1Bug · 27/06/2010 11:59

No YANBU!!

I was in your situation this time last year although only 5 months pregnant i was HUGE and swelling up like a balloon!!

There were many occasions where i sent my DDs to bed at 5.30 lol!!!

As a general rule anyhows all 3 of mine go to bed at 6.30pm every night, and now im on my own with them im so glad i put them into routines when i did as it means my evenings can be spent crying about my failed marriage relaxing.

Sending you labour vibes - i really hope you get a rest soon!! x

mumbar · 27/06/2010 18:53

Mrs mindcontrol hows your day been today?? Any sign of DC3 yet??

peppapighastakenovermylife · 27/06/2010 19:05

YADNBU - Exactly the same here (although only 33 weeks pregnant with DC3) and both were in bed at 6.15.

CheekyLittleSox · 27/06/2010 19:14

Nope you are NBU. My youngest (2yr old) went to bed at 6.30 because he was grinding me down!!!

lazylula · 27/06/2010 21:24

Yanbu, both mine (4.7 and 2 on Wed) were in bed by 6.30 and they hadn't even been badly behaved! They were extremely tired after a very late night last night so both went up half hour earlier than there normal bedtimes! They obviously needed to be as they both were sound asleep very quickly!
