.....call sneezes 'blessyous'???

It's just that it's the last 'baby word' he says, and he's my youngest!

I don't encourage it exactly, and the rest of the family says 'sneeze', I just don't correct him when he says it. My heart sort of melts everytime!!

My mum is of the opinion that I should correct him, that it's a Bad Thing. He'll be made fun of at school etc.

What does the mumsnet jury think?

DD used to say ladypop instead of lollipop lady, it was very sweet so I never corrected her on it.

vicbar · 25/06/2010 22:40

all my 3 dd 5 ds 4 and dd 2 say Farmer Christmas and we have told them that the Robin living in the garden reports back to FC to see if they are behaving. It is genius, as soon as they see that Robin its all sweetness and light.

vicbar · 25/06/2010 22:41

Ohh and grandpa is Grumps - I lOVE that

mumblechum · 25/06/2010 22:43

DS used to call lipstick lickspit. Not far off really

moominmarvellous · 25/06/2010 22:46

He'll grow out of it soon enough, I wouldn't be encouraging the correct way of saying it either.

DD is 3.5 and calls Candy Floss 'Candy Blossoms' and everything was 'yestergo' instead of yesterday.

I must write them down before they're gone

Alambil · 25/06/2010 22:48

we had rayteerayters (radiators) and bisketti until DS was just over 7... I miss them

blessyous and candy blossom is just too cute!

NoahAndTheWhale · 25/06/2010 22:49

DD (4.9) has eyebrowns as well. Hers are also not brown. She also has cardidans. So we all call them those names as well.

PrettyCandles · 26/06/2010 00:33

My elder dc both developed mispronunciations when they went to school and learned spelling. At last they understood the difference between 'th' and 'f', and so made valiant efforts to say words containing these sounds correctly. Dd is 7 and a very good speller, yet she still comes out with words like 'waterprooth' and 'throf'.

Mspontipine · 26/06/2010 01:13

Friend's son used to say "eye bulbs" - lovely

whoneedssleepanyway · 26/06/2010 07:33

CheekyGirl my DD calls sneezes blessyous too.

i haven't corrected any of her babywords i love them and she has just corrected herself in time.

we've had

cinderella = umberella
hold-ons = arm rests on chairs
flumb = thumb
duddle = cuddle

NoahAndTheWhale we wear cardidans too ..

Pet name for the Queen growing up was Lilibet because that's about as close as Princess Margaret could get to saying Elizabeth. Maybe that'll convince your mum not to be too pedantic.

On the other hand, my son (10) still thinks the past tense of 'bring' is 'brang'... now that one I really do have to scotch before it starts to affect GCSE coursework.

QOD · 26/06/2010 08:01

my dd loved to play with nay cups (make up) and also liked to fiddle with my eye flashers (eye lashes)

proudnsad · 26/06/2010 08:05

My 9 yr old ds still says 'mines' instead of mine, it doesn't sound cute but it is, my 5 year old calls her fringe her chin!

I have never corrected them over any baby words as they grow out of all of them (sniff)

honie · 26/06/2010 08:17

My little lad is 9, and stroppy as you like - he says 'sankyou' instead of thankyou, it's very cute!

grapeandlemon · 26/06/2010 08:19

It's a jumpoline in this house

My DS2 says blessyous instead of sneezes.
"Mum I've blessyou'd all over myself" is a lot sweeter than "I'm covered in snot"
I was very sad when he learned to say yellow instead of lellow.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/06/2010 09:17

Chil I didnt know that, I have an Elizabeth who I often call Lilibet!

DS calls hiccups Hicky pups

tkband3 · 26/06/2010 09:25

My DTs (5) call lipgloss glipglop - can't bring myself to correct them .

MathsMadMummy · 26/06/2010 09:36

oh this is such a lovely thread

my DD is only just 3 and doesn't talk very clearly so most words are 'wrong' ATM!

totally agree with others anyway - no hurry, they grow up too fast as it is.

my DS's nickname was inspired by DD - we inadvertently started calling him Little Man when he was born, but DD pronounced it Wee-wool Namm, so that's what we call him now!

mumbar · 26/06/2010 09:54

my ds now 5 always called his forhead his 'front head'. Quite often announced he'd hanged his front head again!!!

cluelessnchaos · 26/06/2010 09:58

Ds also says flumbs instead of thumbs and when his teacher corrects him he says, but my mum thinks it's cute, she keeps telling me off at the school gate but really I can see her laughing she thinks it's cute too.

jellybean637 · 26/06/2010 09:58

My little man is still only small but we have "yegs" (legs) feets, hairkit (haircut) if Daddy has locked himself in garage/bathroom he will shout "let me ouuuut" to get in. Oh and short women are "baby ladies"

When I was learning to read I called quiche "qwotchee" so now my whole family calls it that, and once in a taxi I was reading a book about the human body and said to my mum "what's a pen-iss?" Now we all say pen-iss!

I usually correct my son just because I got into the habit when he first started speaking but I don't think there's anything wrong with a 5 yr old calling sneezes blessyous...it's very sweet.

lazarusb · 26/06/2010 10:00

My dd used to call elephants 'umcidents'. My mum decided that wasn't acceptable and taught her to say it probably. I still resent that to this day. Ds used to call Christmas 'Mitmas' which I have now adopted!

Squidmission · 26/06/2010 10:01

My dh thought satsumas were called sastumas til he went to university as no one ever corrected him! (first his mum, then later people just assumed he was joking)

Just don't leave it too late
