...went to the shop just to buy nappies and milk.
supermarket did not have any nappies in baby*s size at all and only one leaking karton of milk.
complain or not complain?
have noticed empty shelfs before but for items I did not need.

Our local Tesco is like this, complaining falls on deaf ears so I just accept that I cannot rely on them for essentials.

addictedishavingagirl · 23/06/2010 12:36

complaining really does fall on deaf ears unfourtunatly.

I asked the store manager yesterday, very politley if some one was avaliable to serve on customer services as i had been stood waiting for 10minutes and got a very snappy, sharp, 'i've just sent someone over, try being more patient'

If it wasnt for the convienience and closeness i really wouldnt bother with morrisons!

luciemule · 23/06/2010 12:39

Could you ask them what time their milk/bread deliveries arrive and then you won't need to make unnecessary trips next time? I know our co-op gets a fruit and veg delivery on tuesdays so I wouldn't go there on a monday for example.

unfortunately, if it's neither on the shelf nor in the shop - they can't magic up the goods. they can try and improve their stock control but thats something more long-term...

I am "management" in a supermarket and cannot imagine ever, EVER speaking to a customer this way. That's appallingly rude. Our customers are the reason I get a paycheck. Why piss them off and lose them? For that matter, if the lines are that long they should be getting on a register themselves! Being "management" doesn't mean you only supervise. We are actually still supposed to work!

Out of stocks are a big no-no. Everybody is human and occassionally we forget to order something at dome point, but essentials like nappies and milk? I don't know what to say to that, tbh. I would lodge a complaint with their corporate office. That's abysmal service.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2010 12:53

a large sainsbury's near us has become shocking for this recently. I don't mind the not having a choice so much, its the vast empty spaces where what I would like should be.

And don't get me started on the price of butter recently!

BananaPudding · 23/06/2010 12:57

Some, not dome. Also forgot to mention that sometimes we do order certain things and it doesn't arrive, being out of stock in the warehouse. Production issues, delivery problems (although these are usually asinine excuses). Many times it's out of our control. I've been ou of pumpkin for six months and customers had gotten really angry with me over it. But the fact of the matter is that the main pumpkin processing plant was closed by the FDA for infractions and until they fix them and open back up, there is no pumpkin. Period.

Can't imagine that's the case with nappies and milk, however.

EnglandAllenPoe · 23/06/2010 12:59

just gone up hasn't it...from 88p to £1 for basics..

i was once supermarket management - sometimes you will be talking to very tired, very stressed people!

BananaPudding · 23/06/2010 13:10

£1 for how much butter? I'm curious. That seems very cheap, but perhaps Americans buy it in larger quantities (imagine that) so our prices would be a wash?

I just figured it up with a converter thingy, and in my store the it is the American equivalent of £2.70 for .45kg of butter.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2010 13:17

£1.22 for the sainsburys own brand this week in our local one. (250g)
I'm sure that at the beginning of the year I was paying 98p.

addictedishavingagirl · 23/06/2010 13:25

bannanapudding i was the only one in the queue! In morrisons there is 1 member of staff to serve the keiosk and c/s desk the keiosk queue was getting lonnger and longer and i was being ignored

they are also regularly sold out of fruit and veg (not just bits and pieces but all the isles empty) milk, bread (again i'm not fussy i'll buy what ever loaf they have but more often than not there is only a hand full of loaves left) meat and the deli counter is empty.

typing all that has made me think about how convienient they really are!

Sonilaa · 23/06/2010 14:17

I am not fussy regarding brands either but we are talking large asda here (it*s walking distance from home, only reason why I buy there) and there is no strike as far as I am aware and no extreme weather.
had to walk quite a bit to a corner store, got a dusty pack of nappies and a fresh cold karton of milk. puh in this heat...
ice cream helps

Complain to their head office. They may teach them how to manage an EPOS system.
