everyone made an effort to do one nice thing every day? For that matter why stop at one nice thing?

No not at all unreasonable - it should be the law

frasersmummy · 20/06/2010 18:45

and/or if everyone just smiled at everyone they saw!!

SloanyPony · 20/06/2010 20:04

Are there really people in the world who go a whole day without doing one nice thing, though? I doubt it - you may not see it but its pretty hard to go a day without doing one nice thing...

Itsjustafleshwound · 20/06/2010 20:08

I don't think it as much to do a nice thing as much as it is to stop doing the horrible ones that are so much easier and can be justified ...IYSWIM...

southeastastra · 20/06/2010 20:11

i meet lots of nice people every day, we're all happy being stupid though

YANBU

So sick of holding doors open for an age for people when they just swan through like I'm there for my own good!

But hey, I'm the better person....etc etc

stoppinattwo · 20/06/2010 21:16

niceness like every other act is infectious...you shold lead by example

xstitch · 20/06/2010 21:35

I do try to be nice to people. Problem is I usually fail miserably and annoy people. I held a door open for someone this afternoon. Their reply was: "F* off do you think I'm incapable" I felt bad (even guilty) for the rest of the afternoon. Its what made me think of this.

xstich - I can't believe you feel bad/guilty. That person was clearly a wanker, or at the very least, in a bad mood and taking at out on you. What kind of person swears at someone who is trying to help them?

Ezma · 21/06/2010 15:52

Oh xstitch - you did something lovely and it makes me that someone did that. No need to feel bad/ guilty for what you did though and if I was feeling nice about it, maybe they have some sort of issues or, as Jamie said, maybe they're having a bad day.

I think the world would be a far better place if everyone did something nice each day no matter how small. I'm off to think about what I could do that's nice for someone else although I'm very much in need of a hug myself at the moment! I'm sure doing something for someone else will make me feel better though .

lazarusb · 21/06/2010 17:57

Have a hug xstitch- whether you want one or not! It's the little things that mean a lot, just a smile, someone stopping their car so I can cross the road, dh putting the dcs to bed, all put a smile on my face, as do you all on this thread

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/06/2010 17:59

I think the thing is, that we shouldn't stop doing nice things or being nice because you sometimes get knocked back. That's really really hard, because the bad stays in your mind
