kids want to make cards for fathers day. so ive set them at the table with various bit of paper, card, cuttings, glue, scissors, and all the other shite they need.
and im on here, attempting to distract myself from the mess they are making, and to stop myself butting in and making the cards look semi decent!!!
i hate craft stuff.
i looks shite when its finished!

I love doing arts and crafts with DD and spend a small fortune on materials as she really enjoys it. I do usually find that the mess often looks worse than it actually is. But I do wonder whether one of the reasons I love doing it so much is that I was NEVER allowed to do anything like this when I was a kid because of the mess. My Mum is the most houseproud woman on the planet. Now when we go there the kids are allowed aquadraw but nothing messier than that. Absolutely fair enough in her own house! But I do get a bit peeved when she tells me that by doing craft stuff with my daughter that I am apparently 'trying to be someone am not...'

Anyway, YANBU - each to their own - I hate taking the kids swimming. I do it but hate every bloody minute of it...

Guitargirl - my mum always made let me do arts and craft stuff - I loathed it most of the time as I was crap at it...........

YANBU.

It's not something that I paticularly enjoy doing but both of our ds's seem to really enjoy crafty things so I take a deep breath and try to relax as best I can while they do it. I'm glad that they both went to nursery where things like this are done daily and the staff really don't seem to get as stressed about it as I do!

They wanted (well ds1 instigated it!) to do footprints on their Fathers day cards so we did that this week - I hated every minute but they had a great time!

That said, glitter is the work of the devil banned in this house!

I don't usually let mine do messy stuff at home, they do enough of it at nursery.

I nearly had a meltdown when I let them paint in the house. Never again. They can do it in the garden when the weather is nice.

Playdough and colouring are fine. but glue / paint / glitter are not.
