Not a DH bashing, but I am working full time at mo, which was not what we planned. Am missing out on so much with my DDs but, we need to bring in the money.
Today was my DD1s sports day, I asked H to take photos, but he couldn't work camera out. We have had it nearly 2 years. Not a crime in itself, but when I eventually got home, found no photos, so asked what sp day had been like, was told 'just what you expect'
AIBU to want some details about my 6 yr old dds sports day which I had to miss because I work 'cos he doesn't?
Then he shouted at me. I know it is because he is annoyed with self over camera, but it just p's me off, but don't know how to deal with it without being massively unreasonable!!

That would have upset me too, could you not have taken time off and made it up later?

scrab806ble · 17/06/2010 23:02

No well meant, is temp job, have no option of making up hours beyond those which I am contracted for, because term ends! Otherwise would have done just that.

ok, solution is to ask a couple of other mums/dads if they took any photo's and get them to e-mail/copy for you . i really don't think you are in the wrong here at all - your kids sports day/christmas plays etc. are all milestones and of course you wanted to be there but needs must and he should of been more understanding. x

I can understand why you're upset and pissed off but seems like a genuine mistake / incompetancy of your DH. Seems to me (and forgive me if this appears intrusive) like there's some underlying issues and tension here about you having to go to work because he can't / doesn't.

I know I am now going to sound U but at moment, because I work (outside) school hours, is only H who sees other parents. I asked him tonight if he could try to get some photos from others. he said, didn't see anyone else with camera, aka he is embarrased to ask anyone in case they saw him snapping away like David Bailey with camera which wasn't actually working

Is your DH always this incompetent about stuff like this?

I only ask because mine is, he can programme a tool to get data from huge data bases and he can't even figure out how to use a camera or how to use my iphone.

It drives me up the wall.

Sanesometimes1 · 17/06/2010 23:21

Best thing I think is just to leave it be with DH, don't pressurise him any more - next step is just e-mail the school/phone through if you get a chance in your lunch hour and explain the situ - say camera broke ! and ask your DD teacher if she can ask around the parents ? it's worth a shot, if all else fails then get your DD to draw you a picture of her sports day and pop it on the fridge. x don't worry too much though there's always next year !! xx

Sane, you are a genious, I asked my daughter this and she drew me a lovely, intricate picture which she spent ages explaining to me and agreed it was much better than a photo! Thank you for that.
On another note, Maylee, is no secret in this house that I totally resent the fact that I work and he doesn't! When we had the kids, plan was, I would stay at home for the time before they went to full time school, but this has been eroded up to point, I am now full time. I am grateful in the current job market that I am able to do this, but still wish things were different.
And mrspnut, yes, he is always this incompetent over anything I ask him to do. Anything he is interested in he is able to spend time working it out, and doing well. It irritates me too...
You all made me feel much better, thank you.

Scrb806ble - annoying as your DH's camera foibles are (and quite rightly so!!), if your daughter is 6 years old and at school, then your agreement to stay at home would be ended now anyway???

Sorry Chit chat not being clear here, have younger dd too, who is in nursery atm.
