that on the most gorgeous of days, she didn't take dd outside to play, because dd aged 3 said she didn't want too.(i was working today)

YABU. DS and DD don't like going outside in this heat. They'll stay outside for 5 minutes and they say it's 'too burning'

katiepotatie · 17/06/2010 22:35

she's had no fresh air today. MIL has lovely shaded garden

I think YABU I'm afraid. I'd understand if you MIL didn't give your DD anything to eat or drink....but no fresh air for a day isn't the end of the world.

In my experience, grandparents are only expected to lay down the law when absolutely neccessary. All other times, they want to enjoy their grandchildren and indulge them a bit. Of course this can be frustrating when grandparents provide regular childcare, but I think it's a trade off in a way.

katiepotatie · 17/06/2010 22:47

ok IBU then

No my mum usually has dd and ds 9on the 2 days I work), mil takes dd when she feels like it.Usually once a week. She'll have ds too when he's walking, she's only really been interested in dd since she could walk and talk.
Just had a fight with dh about it though, just wanted to see what you all thought

How nice that your DD was so engrossed in whatever was happening inside the house that she didn't want to leave.Your MIL must be doing a great job of looking after her.

Appreciate what you have while you have it.

katiepotatie · 17/06/2010 23:25

I know, and I do appreciate the halp I have, but she was probably engrossed in the TV

You really dont like her do you, and seem to be looking for reasons why your side of family takes precidence over your in laws side.

You should take a step back and examine your motives. Your children could lose out.

diamondsandtiaras · 18/06/2010 08:01

My DD spends rainy freezing cold days whining to go outside, and sunny warm days refusing to set foot outside the back door. Kids, eh?

backtotalkaboutthis · 18/06/2010 08:04

it doesn't matter

hth

Tee2072 · 18/06/2010 08:08

What I would like to know, seriously, is how the air is fresher outside than inside? Is her house hermetically sealed so no air gets in at all?

Also, how fresh is our air these days?

Finally, sun is bad for the skin and causes cancer. So why insist your daughter be exposed?

Most of this is tongue in cheek, but I have honestly always wondered about the fresh air thing.

katiepotatie · 18/06/2010 20:17

I just wanted her to be a bit worn out when she got home, to get her to bed a bit easier than of late, running around outside usually does the trick. As it happens she was a nightmare to get to bed, she was still jumping around her bed at 10.30pm, untill she fell out and bumped her head

Buy your MIL a mini trampoline so that your DD is worn out by the time she gets home [evil grin emoticon].

But seriously, you KNOW YABa little U, don't you???
