local sure start has a free creche for up to 2 hours in the morning.... dd is 15 months i am 31 weeks pregnant and i'm thinking of dropping her off, all i will do is have a brew in the cafe but ive never left her before, i'm kinda thinking that she needs to be away from me a little bit.... but shes so tiny!

It's not for no reason! It's so you can relax with a cuppa and the paper. Go for it!

pancakequeen · 16/06/2010 14:40

Do it, she will have fun... so will you it's free!

Firawla · 16/06/2010 14:41

i would
if she doesnt like it you dont have to keep doing but definitely worth a try, you are pregnant you should take the chance to relax

LaDiDaDi · 16/06/2010 14:43

Definitely do it, try now so that if you need her to go when the baby arrives she is already used to it.

twolittlemonkeys · 16/06/2010 14:45

I agree. You need some 'me' time before your baby arrives. I wish our SureStart centre had done that when I was expecting DS2 or when he was newborn. I could have really done with a bit of time when I only had the baby to deal with, not a stroppy toddler - it might have helped resolve my PND quicker if such things had been available.

mazzystartled · 16/06/2010 14:46

what could possibly be unreasonable about that?
sign her up!

potplant · 16/06/2010 14:47

Sounds like you have a perfectly good reason to me.

yummycrumpet · 16/06/2010 14:49

I'm not preganant but if anyone offered me a couple of hours off from my DD I'd take it!!!
YABU to even have to consider- snap up the offer woman!!!

oldernowiser · 16/06/2010 14:51

You know it makes sense! Have a lovely bit of peace and quiet. When we were all tiny we had a border collie, from proper sheepdog stock. She used to herd all three of us children onto the sofa and nip us if we tried to get off. My mum loved that dog...

qwertpoiuy · 16/06/2010 14:55

Nothing unreasonable about that.

I wish it was there when I was pregnant with DD and DS was 18mo - he was a handful and I had such a stressful pregnancy working full-time, 24-hour call then running after him the following day having had no sleep(I often wonder if it contributed to DD1's cleft palate and Asperger's diagnosis!).

Anyway, it's better for your baby if you are relaxed.

custardismyhamster · 16/06/2010 16:00

to me, that IS a reason. Most people if they work say a 9-5 job get an hour lunch break, right-well you are a mummy when do you get your break? Rarely I bet!

Go for it, your DD will love the creche I'm sure and you will enjoy a rest

diamondsandtiaras · 16/06/2010 16:27

Do it. My DD1 started doing 1 morning a week with her childminder when she was 15 months and I was in the early stages of pregnancy with DD2. She now does 2 mornings (she's 2.4) even though I am a sahm........it gives me some one on one time with DD2 without the incessant demands of a toddler. Make the most of it!

pearlym · 16/06/2010 16:32

can understand need or desire for a break, what about paying for a chidlminder????child will get continuity of care fro known figure rather than just drop into crech which would prob be v stressful for her

compo · 16/06/2010 16:37

I don't think it'll be stressful for her
you'll be able to guage her surroundings when you drop her off
and a childminder won't be free

porcamiseria · 16/06/2010 17:03

go for it!!!! in a few months I am sure Dave n Nicl will cut these

LuluF · 16/06/2010 17:15

How lovely that you have something like that. Do it. It's for the best reason of all - enjoy your time off and don't feel guilty - why not even go one step further and have a mum to be pamper, or a lovely long bath.

twinterror · 16/06/2010 19:49

YANBU

I put mine in nursery for an extra day last week so I could have a break - we all need time out occasionally!

QualityTime · 16/06/2010 19:57

DO it.
I pay £6.50 a week for DD2 to have 2 hours in a playgroup so I can go for a run and have a bath with loud music playing and a magazine!
Worth every penny If it's free then don't even hesitate.
