Im really concerned about my son playing with stickle brick at my mother in laws when he is only 7 months and the toy states its suitable from 3 years +. My husband thinks Im worrying about nothing, am I?

I thought stickle bricks for for babies.

Rockbird · 16/06/2010 15:10

t&f, what did he do, stick it on the bedpost every night like Violet Beauregard (sp?) and come back to it in the morning?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2010 15:11

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend when she'd brought her 3 and 1 year old over. We were having a discussion about whether they were small enough to be a choking hazard, and decided they were too big to fit in her mouth. At that very second she stuffed one of the triangular ones all the way in and looked very smug

So take out the triangles, circles, squares and any floating heads and you'll be fine

Kewcumber · 16/06/2010 15:14

paediatrician once told me (as I was gasping at her giving DS something small'ish which he put in his mouth) that you only really need to worry about the round ones which could block their throat. Do they do round sticklebrisks?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2010 15:37

well round but flat, like coins i suppose but bigger & stickly!

Kewcumber · 16/06/2010 15:38

ah - we are a lego family not a sticklebrick family

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2010 15:38

but yes iswyim you could probably just pull it out
After all cave baby's sticklebricks won't have been H&S tested

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2010 15:39

ooh they';re not comparable ds is 3 and has had SBs forv a while and megablocks. lego is all to come...

Oblomov · 16/06/2010 15:45

what harm can a stickle brick do please
? what is the exact concern OP ? how can he hurt himself ?

EasilyConfusedIndith · 16/06/2010 15:46

I'm trying to work out if I'm your friend SPB, stuffing a sticklebrick in her mouth sounds like something dd would do but I can't remember!

Are sticklebricks really for over 3s? We have my old ones and have had them for ages. I owuldn't be botheres. Mind you we have proper lego now for ds and I'm not bothered about 18 month old dd playing with that! SHe spends hours taking all the heads, hats and hair off the men and putting them back on again.

mazzystartled · 16/06/2010 15:46

are you for real?

colditz · 16/06/2010 15:47

You are worrying about nothing.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2010 16:07

No not you easily- was E, with L and I.
I think the triangular ones could hurt quite a bit if you got it caught in your throat

libelulle · 16/06/2010 18:55

Take the triangular and small circle ones out if you're worried.

But if you try to pay attention to all safety warnings on toys, you're in for a hard life! Exhibit A for the prosecution: the crayons that came with DD's 'in the night garden' magazine brought by GPs yesterday. The warning on the packet states that they are a 'throat impact' hazard and that during use 'it is advised that all children wear overalls and all soft furnishings are covered.' What a beautiful image that is. Sorry darling, you can't use the crayons; they're a throat impact hazard and in any case I'm all out of dust sheets...

usualsuspect · 16/06/2010 18:58

Bloody hell! .your MIL is evil for allowing that

Galena · 16/06/2010 21:49

I found some Clipo in a charity shop (Wanted stickle bricks but there wasn't any). It's like stickle bricks with fat stickles. DD loves chewing it. It's 18 months +. I don't have any qualms about DD playing with it (she's 14 mo but 3 months prem so developmentally 11 mo). She loves megabloks too!
