Anyone else starting nursery in September/Jan and confused about funding and hours. I have looked at 3 different nurserys and dispite doing the same days/hours the figures being quoted are all over the place??

Well they charge different fees
if you send your child for three hours every day from September it will be free
if you need longer then you'll be charged the extra

Or you can use up to two sessions in one day, so six hours in one day but you'll have to pay for the time in btw

arrggh I'm confusing myself

All nurseries can charge different fees.

Some nurseries charge more than others, but they get a certain amount of £ from the gov.

And then you can pay a different amount for any extra hours they offer.

My DD2 is starting nursery in September but I will have to pay for her two sessions until the term after she turns 3 (she is 3 in September so will be free from January) I've looked at 2 nurseries and the fees at one are £9.25 per session and £8.50 at the other. Is that what you meant?

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 15/06/2010 19:40

Yes thats what I meant. One nursery wants me to pay for the first time in advance NOT taking off the grant??

I haven't been asked for any money in advance but she's going in for a settling in session in a couple of weeks so may be asked for it then. I don't remember paying up front when DD1 went to playschool though.
