To say that I am not going on Holiday, unless MY dog goes into the kenels I choose?

Apparently it is £11 per day and I haven't looked around enough for cheaper ones. I don't want cheap boarding kennels, I want decent, clean boarding kennels where my dog will be looked after.

We got the dog from cheap boarding kennels/pound and frankly I wouldn't house rats there.

Twattish never came so he didn't see the state of them. He won't be dropping the dog off there either I will, so he will be free to enjoy his holiday without having to worry about the state the dog is being kept in.

Grrr! I am so sick of his greed.

Never done this before -

Lauriefairycake · 15/06/2010 14:32

you have bigger probs shiny

don't go with him

keep the dog

dump him

£11 is cheap - its £17 where I go

EnglandAllenPoe · 15/06/2010 14:35

good boarding is a necessity for doggy - you don't want it to come back sick and cost you a vets bill.

have you looked at home boarding for your doggy? (you know, dog owners that take in dogs to live with them)

compo · 15/06/2010 14:35

And you want to go on holiday with this man?

Or does he have real worries about money?

ShinyAndNew · 15/06/2010 14:39

No, money is not great, but we are hardly living on the breadline either. We manage fine.

EAP, the dog suffers from a skin condition, so dirty or constantly wet kennels would mean more anti inflammatory injections and expensive shampoos. I wouldn't trust home boarding, I chose these kennels because they were recommeded to be the best and because they are situated on a farm, far far far away from any major roads. When I went on Holiday last year, my dog was hit by a car and killed.

I'd trust home boarding over kennels as it happens. Dogs from our local boardings kennels are found walking around the nearest village more often than I think acceptable!

But I think your problems are much more about the dog. Although you'll not need me to tell you. You are, quite reasonably, worried after last year's awful episode and I'd not have thought £11 a day was a high price to pay for peace of mind.

ChippingIn · 15/06/2010 14:53

Book him into a cheap kennel and take your dog with you - the dog will be much better company!!

splashy · 15/06/2010 14:57

Could you not find a friend who would take the dog for a week? I would think that would be much better in terms of companionship for the dog.

ShinyAndNew · 15/06/2010 14:58

I don't think £11 per day is that much either, especially since the run a privately funded rescue centre too. I'd have thought it would have been more to cover the cost of rescue.

I've agreed to leave the cat with my sister, so it's only the dog we have to pay for. If it wasn't for my sister and her boyfriend we'd have to board him too.

We had a dog when we booked the Holiday, so he must have understood then that he'd have to pay for boarding.

For £18 a day you can get home boarding.

I would never put my dog in kennels.

Can't you find a willing friend to look after him? I never understood how people can put their dogs in doggy prison like this. They have no idea why you've gone or where.

Surely there are people around, dog owners or not, who would love to dog sit.

ShinyAndNew · 15/06/2010 15:12

Spidermama, the problem with that is, I don't like anyone but me leaving the house with my dog. And he is a darter too. The kennels are a purposely converted farm, with enclosed exercise fields.

My sister would probably have him, or my friend, but I wouldn't be able to relax on holiday and I'd making them ring me after every walk, to let me know they had managed to get him home safely.

Hmmm. I see the problem.

You have to tell your dh how it's going to be. The dog is a member of the family. He deserves to have the best experience you can afford while you are away.

Good luck!

Angelcat666 · 15/06/2010 17:13

I agree with LFC

Dump him and keep the dog.

Vallhala · 15/06/2010 17:58

Smile, nod and take the little fella to the kennels of your choice. If DH doesn't like it, tough. That poor dog has seen enough of sub-standard kenels to last him a lifetime - a life he may well have lost had t not been for you.

Alternatively, why not book a lovely hotel in the UK for a fortnight... just for one, plus dog.

BelleDameSansMerci · 15/06/2010 18:09

I'm with Vallhala on this one... You need to enjoy your holiday and you won't do that if you're worrying about your dog.

FortunateHamster · 15/06/2010 18:41

I would've thought your partner would be more sympathetic after what happened last year. Price sounds reasonable to me for kennels. Take the dog where you want to take him

5Foot5 · 15/06/2010 19:56

Wow I am glad I don't have a dog!

We only get charged £3 a day for guinea pigs.
