Rhubarb forcer

Went to the garden centre this morning and the pot section was full of them. Now I want one. Even though:

a) I don't know how to use it
b) I don't grow rhubarb
c) I wouldn't want to force anything to grow in our garden.

Will I grow out of this addiction to all things terracotta??

have you got one of those terracotta things that waters your containers for you by allowing the water to seep through the sides?

mrsincommunicado · 14/06/2010 14:34

thegingerone does it work with a rhubarb forcer though?

What else can you force?

children to do homework?

JeezyPeeps · 14/06/2010 14:50

(Note: that would probably only worked if you threatened to clobber them with the terracotta which would be construed as child abuse...)

use a bucket!
seriously - forcing rhubarb is a way to get it to grow earlier and thinner - called forcing because it forces the rhubarb to look for the light.

get a big bucket and put it overthe crowns before they start to come up (so beginning of spring)

then you'll get lovely, young-looking tender rhubarb for a fraction of the price.
