To have told lady in mothercare to get more training!

I went there today and tried my 14 month old in the maxi cosi cabrio fix. (not for him but to see how much use I would get out of it if I bought it for dc2 as ds grew out of his creatis at 7 months)

Anyway while he was in it, a member of staff came over saying " no no, he needs to be in a forward facing seat. Try this one" then pointed me towards a high backed booster.

I told her that she should ask for more training and walked out!

Now I've been thinking about this all day and keep thinking I should have stayed and explained why a 14 month old should not be in a high backed booster secured only with an adult seat belt. I mean what if she tells this to another parent and they believe her.

Now I'm pissed off with myself for not saying anything.

Argggg, bloody mothercare!

I have to say that having being out of the workforce for a number of years I am enjoying the fact that "some retraining" seems to have become a euphemism for "a right royal bollocking"

Well you'd hope so. I really want the person who told us that there actually was no doctor on call to deal with our dying (but now fine) dd to have had some serious "retraining".

differentID · 12/06/2010 22:25

so which seat exactly did she say your ds should be in?

merryandmad · 12/06/2010 22:31

StarExpat - no worries- we had the pink one though. DD2 is nearly 4 (on Monday) and it is set up like the booster seat with wings. It actually looks more comfortable than the one in my car now, as the head rest still offers her support when she's tired as it can be moved up and down unlike the graco one in my car

Mothercare sell high back booster seats with harness, suitable from around 9 months. Is that not what she was referring to?

biddysmama · 14/06/2010 12:48

i told the woman in mothercare that she had made a mistake, in front of a woman she was selling the wrong car seat to (6 months old buying a forward facing!!), she wasnt very happy about it but it is dangerous!!!

my 15 month old is still rear facing in a britax first class... ive found that babies r us car seat fitters are better trained than mothercares...

Mollycat1 · 14/06/2010 13:01

While I would prefer to keep children facing rearward as long as possible its not always practical. I have been looking at high backed boosters in the last few weeks. The one that I am looking at is perfectly reasonable for a 14mth old as it has an internal harness and is secursed by a 3 point seat belt therefore making it as secure as a full seat.

If the high back booster did not have an internal harness then fair enough, i would have pointed out why it was not suitable, if it did have the harness then it was a suitable option just not what you wanted.

She probably does need some training but she didn't deserve you belittling her like that, OP.

And please don't use the pregnancy hormone excuse. Sure, pregnancy can make you feel antsy but it doesn't make you lose control of your mouth.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/06/2010 16:09

Alot of seats look like the older booster type seats though dont they. /im betting it was one similar to the link further down the thread.

Ah well OP you probably acted a bit hasty and made a mistake. No harm done, us sales assistants are, unfortunately, used to far worse behaviour! I doubt you upset her, she most likely laughed about it when you had gone!

ziggycat · 18/06/2010 15:09

Yes you were very rude and there is just no need for it.
Regardless of whether or not you believe she needs more training she was only trying to help you.

mangoandlime · 18/06/2010 15:58

Which seat did she mean? Are you sure you weren't a bit hasty? Some boosters have built in harnesses, did she not mean this type? Did you flounce off assuming she meant the other type with the seatbelt only?

Would you have done this in John Lewis?

Yes, you were roood!
